The Kansas football team is 4-0 for the first time since 2009 after their 35-27 win at home against Duke.

Quarterback Jalon Daniels and the KU offense were humming yet again as they racked up 528 yards of total offense. The Jayhawk defense also was able to step up and get some big time stops in the fourth quarter.

The first drive by the Jayhawks didn’t go their way, however, as they got all the way to the Blue Devils’ one-yard line, but were unable to punch it in.

After the defense forced Duke to punt, KU got their first touchdown of the game from Trevor Kardell who had a six-yard touchdown reception to put the Hawks up 7-0.

Duke was able to respond with a score of their own with a 49-yard reception from Eli Pancol from quarterback Riley Leonard to set them up on 1st & Goal where Jaylen Coleman ran in for a score from the five-yard line.

After a solid start to KU’s next drive, running back Devin Neal fumbled it away to give Duke a chance to take the lead for the first time. However, they were unable to convert and were forced to punt.

After a three-yard run by running back Daniel Hishaw Jr., Daniels completed a 73-yard touchdown pass to Hishaw Jr. on the second play of the drive to give KU a 14-7 lead.

Duke put together a long five-plus minute drive to get within goal-to-go, but the Jayhawks’ defense held the Blue Devils to just a field goal making it 14-10.

Once again, KU’s offense was able to score with this time being a 19-yard connection to Luke Grimm to go up 21-10. Duke got another field goal to get back within one possession to make it 21-13 at the break.

Duke drove the ball into KU territory, but another stop by the defense on 4th & 1 gave KU a chance to score first to start the second half. They did just that as Lawrence Arnold hauled in a 36-yard touchdown to go up 28-13.

Duke would get the next score to get back within reach, but Duke still had no answer for Lance Leipold’s offense as the Jayhawks went up 35-20.

The Blue Devils showed they didn’t want to give up easily and responded immediately with another score on a 27-yard touchdown to Jalen Calhoun to get within one possession once again.

After Duke’s defense got a second consecutive stop, and Duke started driving down the field with some long plays and linebacker Gavin Potter adding to his long list of bone-headed dirty hits out of bounds, Duke was within striking distance of tying it.

However, KU’s defense got a stop on 4th down to seal the game and improve to 4-0.

Daniels finished his day going 19-for-23 with 324 passing yards and four passing touchdowns. He also had a team-high 11 carries, 83 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Kansas has two very winnable home games coming up against Iowa State next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and against TCU on October 8th. The road to 6-0 is very possible before the rest of their schedule gets hairy.

Four of their last six games as of the most recent AP poll are against ranked opponents, and the two unranked opponents are both road games. As mentioned previously, the Jayhawks are 4-0 for the first time since 2009, however, that team went on to go just 5-7.
