It was an ugly game for both teams, but Jackson Heights came away with a 27-0 win on senior night to get them into the playoffs.

Onaga got the ball first and had a three-and-out, but the Cobras fumbled the return to give the Buffaloes new life for the drive. However, it would stall as the turned it over on downs. On the next Cobra drive, they fumbled the ball away to give the Buffaloes another chance. Yet again, though, the Jackson Heights’ defense stiffened. For the third straight drive, Jackson Heights committed a turnover with freshman quarterback Drake Mellies throwing an interception over the middle of the field, but again Onaga couldn’t do anything offensively. Just when it seemed like things couldn’t get any lower for both teams, the Cobras muffed another punt, and the Buffaloes were stopped again with good field position.

Jackson Heights was finally able to get the first points of the game with an eight-yard run from sophomore fullback Josh Smith to finish a 90-yard drive. Smith would get another touchdown on their next drive with a three-yard touchdown run to go up 14-0.

Out of the halftime break, Jackson Heights marched down the field 66 yards and got another touchdown run with it this time coming from sophomore running back Titus Eisenbarth to put the game away as Onaga’s offense was still unable to put up any points.

Smith is our Player to Bank On brought to you by Farmers State Bank as he led the team with four receptions with 62 receiving yards with his two touchdowns.

With the win, the Cobras make the playoffs and will play at St. Mary’s. The game can be seen on the Cobra channel.
