JCN Girls Invite Recap -- Lady Chargers Capture Home Invite
By Mike Smith

Jefferson County North Invitational is in the books and just like last year the host Chargers of JCN and the Tigers of ACCHS meet up again in the championship game and for the second time this season as the Tigers were looking to avenge their only loss this season, but it was the JCN Chargers reigning victorious again.

Valley Falls capped off the tournament with a third place finish in a tight one against Perry Lecompton. Jeff West Tigers cruised past Maranatha for fifth place and McLouth took home seventh beating Oskaloosa.

7th Place -- McLouth 51, Oskaloosa 45

After falling in both of their first two games of the tournament the McLouth Bulldogs and the Oskaloosa Bears were looking to close of the tournament with at least one win in their back pocket and capture seventh place in this years JCN Invite.

Junior, Kayla Steffy stepped up her performance as she poured in 21 points on the day for McLouth to lead the Bulldogs to the 51-45 win over Oskaloosa. Angela Dailey and Kaitlyn Hullinger both added nine points each to help the Bulldogs on the night.

For the Bears it was Haidyn Bassett leading the way with 13 points, while Maddy Miller added eight points.

With the win McLouth takes seventh in the JCN Invite and improves to 3-10 on the season, while Oskaloosa is still searching for their first win of the season as they are now 0-13 on the season.

5th Place -- Jeff West 53, Maranatha 16

The Jeff West Tigers cruised past Maranatha to a 53-16 win in the fifth place contest in the JCN Invite. Tigers took early control of the game behind a 25-10 first half, then sailed past Maranatha with a 28-6 second half.

Senior, Erika Essman continues to be the go to gal for the Tigers on the court as she lead them with 15 points on the night, while fellow senior, Haley Seiss added 11 points. The Tigers defense held Maranatha to single digits in every quarter and six points in a single quarter being the highest in one quarter for Maranatha.

Tigers moved to above .500 with the win, as they are now 7-6 on the season and won fifth place in the tourney, while Maranatha is 6-6 with the loss.

3rd Place -- Valley Falls 47, Perry Lecompton 45

A close ballgame at the half it was the Perry Lecompton Kaws that took control of the contest with a 18-6 third quarter of action, but it was the Valley Falls Dragons coming back for the 47-45 win with a 16-6 fourth quarter.

In the win the Dragons were lead by senior, Ashley Miller with her 11 points. Senior, Molly Tillery and freshman, Ali Brown each chipped in eight points for Valley Falls in the win.

Perry Lecompton in the loss was lead by Jones who scored 16 points and Madison Hess who chipped in 13 points.

Withe win Valley Falls improves to 7-5 on the season and won third in the JCN Invite while Perry Lecompton is now 4-9 on the season with the loss.

Championship -- Jefferson County North 59, ACCHS 35

For the fifth straight year the host Lady Chargers came out on top of their own Invitational tourney and for the third straight time they did it by topping fellow Delaware Valley League foe, ACCHS in the finals. JCN took down the ACCHS 59-35 this season, almost the same score from last years championship matchup between the two teams (55-38 JCN win last year in JCN Invite championship).

The game was never really in doubt as the Chargers ran out to a 13-5 lead after the first period and then a 22-10 third quarter to put things fully away and cruise to another win. Junior, Jacee Kramer who earlier this tournament scored her 1,000th career point, tallied 30 more points in this win. ACCHS was lead by Rachel Newquist with her 12 points.

With the win JCN improved to 11-2 on the season and won their home tourney for the fifth straight time, while ACCHS only loss for the second time this season (both to JCN) falling to 11-2 on the year.
