The Holton basketball teams picked up a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday night at home winning a pair of games against Royal Valley.

Girls: Royal Valley 50, Holton 59

This game was tight from the opening tip but the difference was down the stretch in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Panthers 17-11 to hold on for the win.

Holton led 14-10 after the first quarter, 30-26 at halftime and 42-39 at the end of the third quarter.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Brooke Willcott as she finished with 24 points while hitting 12 of 14 free throw attempts.

Lindsey Wisdom added 12 points for Holton but left the game in the second half with an apparent knee injury.

Kennedy Bryan and Alysa Ladson went off for the Panthers but it wasn't enough to pull off the win. Ladson finished with 19 points while Bryan finished the game with 18 points as the two combined to make seven three's in the game.

Wildcats even their record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Big 7 league play while the Panthers dropped to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in Big 7 league play.

Boys: Royal Valley 26, Holton 47

Royal Valley jumped out early on the Wildcats and led 11-4 at the end of the first quarter. They would extend that lead to double digits early in the second quarter but that was it for the Panthers on offense.

Holton would go on to outscore Royal Valley 15-3 in the second quarter and 16-2 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

At one point in that stretch, the Wildcats scored 26 unanswered points.

Holton had three players in double figures led by Tyson Snyder with 13 while Matt Lierz chipped in with 11 and Brayden Peak added 10.

Royal Valley was led in scoring by Daniel Coleman who finished the game with nine.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Big 7 league play while the Panthers dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in Big 7 league play.

Up next for both on Friday, Holton travels to Hiawatha while Royal Valley returns home to host Riverside.
