KWCA Releases New State Wrestling Rankings -- Jan. 29th

Wrestling continues to bring success for many area wrestlers and their teams this season and many wrestlers continue to remain ranked as the season progresses along. The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association has released its new set of rankings and 18 area wrestlers area in the latest set of rankings, while three teams area ranked also.

In Class 4A, its the Holton Wildcats highlighting things as they remained at number 10 in the team rankings this week and five wrestlers individually ranked. Seniors, Hunter Price (120lbs) and Lane Lassiter (145lbs), along with junior, Cooper Zeller (285lbs) all three remained in the rankings this week. Lassiter was the only one of the three that remained in the same spot ranked at number four in his weight class, while Zeller fell from number two to number five and Price fell down one spot from four to five.

Junior, Andrew Rieschick (160lbs) and sophomore, Lucas Lovvorn (138lbs) both have jumped back into the rankings after falling out for a brief time recently. Rieschick is back in the top six in his weight class jumping to the number five spot this week, while Lovvorn is back in the rankings in his weight class at number six.

Jeff West Tigers, Justin Scott (220lbs) and Tucker Schreiner (106lbs) both remained ranked this week with no movement in the rankings from the previous week. The junior, Scott continues to be atop the number one spot in this weight class, while freshman, Schreiner remains at sixth in this weight class.

Royal Valley Panther senior, Tanner Ogden, our reigning "Athlete of the Week" remained ranked at number four in the 152lb weight class.

For Class 3A, the Marysville Bulldogs and ACCHS Tigers both remained ranked as teams this week. The Tigers remained ranked at number nine this week, while Marysville fell down one spot this week to number eight to Marysville.

Marysville and ACCHS highlight the individual area wrestlers ranked as they both have three wrestlers ranked. For the Bulldogs freshman, Chris Deters (106lbs) and seniors, Josh Goepfert (113lbs) and James Landoll (138lbs) all remained ranked this week. Both Goepfert and Landoll remained ranked at number two and four, respectively in their weight classes.

Tigers wrestlers, senior, Taylor Schuetz (160lbs) and sophomores, Logan Bowen (120lbs) and Willy Dieckmann (126lbs) all remained ranked this week, also. Both Schuetz and Dieckmann remained at their respective rankings this week as Schuetz continued to check in at number five and Dieckmann at number four in their respective weight classes. Bowen made the biggest leap of any area wrestler in the latest set of rankings as he jumped up to number two from number four last week in his weight class.

Four others area wrestlers remained ranked this week all from four different schools in Pleasant Ridge, Doniphan West, Onaga and Sabetha. For the Rams of Pleasant Ridge senior, Jared Johnson has held the number one spot in his weight class of 170lbs all season and remained at spot this year. For Doniphan West and Sabetha their lone wrestlers ranked this week are a pair of guys that have been ranked in the 195lbs weight class all season in Tristan Speer and Tyler Edelman. Speer for the Mustangs remained at number three this week and Edelman for Sabetha remained right behind him at number four. In the heavyweight division (285lbs), Onaga senior, Mychal Kolterman remained ranked fifth this week.
