The Sabetha Bluejays had a quality Tuesday night on the hardwood as they swept Perry Lecompton in a Big 7 league doubleheader.

The Sabetha boys with the win clinch a share of the Big 7 league title.

Girls: Perry Lecompton 29, Sabetha 30

This game was played out much different then the first meeting on Jan. 13th as this game was close from the opening tip as Sabetha won the first meeting by 27.

Sabetha led 10-7 after the first quarter and the game was tied 17-17 going into halftime. The Bluejays outscored the Kaws 6-2 in the third quarter and led by four going into the fourth.

The Kaws kept it close and had a chance to win the game at the buzzer but the short corner shot fell short and the Bluejays held on for the win.

Mary Lukert led Sabetha scoring 24 of the teams 30 points while adding six rebounds.

Perry Lecompton was led by Brooke Metcalfe with nine points and five rebounds while Alyson Farmer added six points.

Sabetha improves to 11-7 overall and 8-4 in Big 7 league play while the Kaws dropped to 7-11 overall and 3-9 in Big 7 league play.

Boys: 3A #10 Perry Lecompton 54, 3A #1 Sabetha 61

This game was as good as advertised as it was back and forth from the jump. Sabetha was able to knock down some late free throws and get enough key plays to hold off the Kaws to secure a share of the Big 7 league title this season.

Sabetha controlled the first quarter leading 18-11 but the Kaws held the Bluejays to just four second quarter points and led on the road 24-22 at halftime.

The Bluejays outscored the Kaws 19-7 in the third quarter and built a 10 point lead going into the fourth but the Kaws kept fighting to keep it close but it just wasn't enough against the top team in 3A.

Marcus Bauman led the Bluejays with 17 points, Davis Rokey added 16, Christian McAfee finished with 14 and Matthew Garber added 10.

Kaws were led by Gunnar Ball as he finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Kael Gorski added 14 points and Kamryn Kaniper finished with 12.

The Bluejays stay perfect at 18-0 overall and 12-0 in Big 7 league play while the Kaws had their eight game winning streak snapped as they dropped to 14-4 overall and 9-3 in league play.

Up next for both on Friday, Perry Lecompton will host Riverside while Sabetha travels to Holton.
