The Frankfort Wildcats picked up a two-game sweep on Senior Night over Washington County on Friday. The girls won decisively by a final score of 44-25 and the boys picked up their first Twin Valley League win of the season with the final score of 58-52.

In the girls’ game, it was Washington County who jumped on Frankfort quickly going up 5-0. Wildcats’ head coach Brian Ebert didn’t like what he was seeing and called timeout. Out of the break, Frankfort would go on a 21-4 run and hold the lead for the rest of the game.

Frankfort junior forward Syndey Wapp helped during the run with six second quarter points with eight going into halftime break. Their season-long leading scorer junior guard Hattie Gros had seven points as well.

As good as their offense was, their defense was better. The Wildcats held Washington County to just eight total points in the second and third quarters combined.

The Wildcats let up a little in the fourth quarter allowing Tiger sophomore guard Jesse Hoover to score six points in the frame. However, their lead was large enough to where it was never in jeopardy.

Gros led all scorers with 14 points for the Wildcats. Wapp added 12 points and senior small forward Taryn Parthemer contributed seven points.

It was senior night in Frankfort, and she is the lone senior on the roster. That being said and a solid performance on both sides of the ball, Parthemer is our “Player to Bank On” brought to you by Farmers State Bank.

Hoover led Washington County in points with nine and was the only Tiger to score more than five.

With the loss, Washington County is locked in as the 6-seed in the Washington County sub-state tournament starting next Thursday and will be at 3-seed Clifton-Clyde.

As for Frankfort, they secured the 2-seed and will welcome in 7-seed Blue Valley-Randolph Thursday night.

Frankfort will play in their regular season finale at Linn next Monday.

The boys’ game saw Frankfort make five threes in the first quarter including two apiece from freshman guard Wes Anderson and sophomore guard Tyler Smith.

In the second quarter, they would cool off, but sophomore forward Lane Loiseau put the team on his back. He scored all ten of the team’s points in the quarter to hold on to a two-point lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Anderson exploded for four three-point makes and 13 points to get them up by six going into the fourth quarter.

Both offenses struggled to make field goals in the final frame, but Washington County senior forward Payton LeDuc made a pair of difficult threes to keep them alive. However, Loiseau returned to his second quarter level of play and had six more points and other Wildcats made some clutch free throws to hang on for the victory.

Anderson made six total threes and finished the game with 21 points. Loiseau finished with 20 points in the win. With performances like those, I couldn’t give the “Player to Bank On” award presented by Farmers State Bank to just one of them, so I’m giving it to both of the underclassmen.

Junior small forward Carson Kearn ended the game with 15 points leading the Tigers in scoring. LeDuc ended up with 31 points and junior point guard Austin Wurtz got 11.

Washington County finishes with the 6-seed in their own sub-state tournament and will be on the road against the 3-seed Blue Valley-Randolph this Friday.

As for Frankfort, they are the 7-seed and will be at Osborne on Thursday night. The Bulldogs locked up  the 2-seed in the sub-state bracket.
