The Silver Lake girls basketball team will be playing for third place at the State Tournament in Hutchinson for a second consecutive season.

The Eagles battled but defending Champs Goodland held on for a 54-51.

Goodland led by one at the end of the first quarter and then they led 28-23 at halftime. Silver Lake came out and scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take the lead and the game was back and forth the rest of the way.

Silver Lake had two chances late to tie the game but three's missed by Kailyn Hanni were the final opportunities of the game to force overtime.

Silver Lake (23-2) had three players in double figures led by 15 points from Taylor Ross, 13 points from Kaibryn Kruger, and 10 points for Kenzie McDaniel.

Goodland (25-0) will look to defend their State Title as they have now won 38 straight games which is the longest winning streak in the state for boys and girls and in all classes.

The Cowgirls were led by Fort Hays State commit Talexa Weeter as she finished with 32 points and seven rebounds.

Silver Lake will play for third place against 1-seed Phillipsburg at noon on Saturday. That game will be live on KNZA 103.9 FM.

Goodland will look for their second straight State Title as they'll play Cheney at 4:00 PM.
