Jefferson County North Sweeps Jackson Heights Invitational

The Jefferson County North track and field teams won the Invitational at Jackson Heights on Tuesday afternoon. 

Girls: JCN led the way with 120 points and just beat out Jackson Heights who finished in second with 118 points. Wabaunsee finished with 100 points, Sabetha with 93 and Royal Valley with 32 to round out the top five. 

The Chargers were led by Claire Jobbins who won the javelin and Eve Smith who won the high jump. JCN also had a handful of second and third place finishes which bolsted their team score. 

Kanyon Olberding led Jackson Heights as she won the 100 meter dash, long jump, and triple jump. Emmarae Thompson was also clutch for the Cobras as she won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. 

Both Olberding and Thompson were part of the 4x100 meter relay team which finished in first place. 

Mary Lukert helped the Bluejays to their fourth place finish. Lukert finished first place in the 800 meters and second place in the 1600 meters. 

Lukert was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team which picked up a first place finish. 

Boys: JCN was able to hold off Sabetha as the Chargers finished in first place with 169 points followed by the Bluejays with 159 points. 

Jackson Heights finished in third place with 101 points followed by Wetmore in fourth with 33 and Horton in fifth with 29. 

Isaac Kane had a big afternoon to lead JCN as he won the 200 and 400 meters while also finishing first in the high jump. Kane was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished in first place. 

Chace Terry placed first in the 110 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles while Blake Fowler won the javelin and Will Elias winning the long jump. 

Sabetha had a bevy of first place finishes. Brody Deters won the 800 meters, Charlie Lukert won the 1600 meters, Kalvin Evans won the 3200 meters, Joshua Grimm won both the shot put and discus and Nohl Niehues won the triple jump. 

The Bluejays also won the 4x800 meter relay. 

Jackson Heights landed a couple of first place finishes with Kyson Proffitt in the 100 meter dash and Taegan Binkley in the pole vault.
