TVL Tournament Day One Recap; Hanover Girls, Troy Boys Victorious

HANOVER 55, ONAGA 39

Hanover got a quick 10-2 lead in the opening six minutes of the first quarter, and they never looked back. Drew Bruna scored six opening quarter points to help the Wildcats get a 13-4 lead after the first eight minutes concluded.

Hanover scored the first basket of the quarter to go up 16-4, but Emmarsyn Fordham would score back-to-back baskets and Jadyn Haskin would drain a three to give the Buffs a 7-0 run to make it 16-11. Onaga had a chance to get within one possession before the half, but the committed a turnover and Anna Jueneman made a layup before the buzzer to give the Wildcats a 20-13 at the break.

Onaga scored the first four points of the third quarter to make it 20-17, but Hanover was able to take over from there as they went on an 18-2 for the remainder of the quarter to make it 38-19.

Haskin made a pair of threes quickly for Onaga to start the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late and Hanover was able to advance to the quarterfinal round with a comfortable win.

Jueneman led all scorers with 19 points making her the Farmers State Bank Player of the Game. Bruna also added 14 points for the Cats. Jadyn Haskin led Onaga in scoring with 15 points including four three-point makes.

Hanover will take on Frankfort at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

TROY 54, ONAGA 29

Troy started out hot with a 15-2 run in the first quarter. All of the Trojans’ baskets came inside of 15 feet. Meanwhile, Troy’s 1-3-1 defense was giving Onaga fits being able to turn them over and score in transition.

In the second quarter, it was more of the same with Seth Judd scoring six second-quarter points as the Trojans continued to grow their lead which ballooned to 28-9 at halftime.

Gannon Bowe took the game over for the Trojans in the third quarter with six more points. He helped give Troy a 41-19 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, Troy was able to take care of business and hold off Onaga thanks to six points from Caden Rosenberger to put the Trojans into the quarterfinals.

Bowe led Troy in scoring with 13 points making him the Farmers State Bank Player of the Game. Judd and Rosenberger each scored eight points. For Onaga, Kolterman and Nider accounted for 23 of the team’s 29 points with Kolterman scoring 12 and Nider getting 11.

Troy will face Axtell at 7:45 on Wednesday night.
