Hiawatha Redhawks Soar Away with Huge Win Over the Cobras in Thunder Dome Classic Consolation Make-up Game
By Kryndon Proffitt

Jackson Heights VS Hiawatha (33-62)

The fight for fifth place in the Thunder Dome Classic is battled out between the tough and gritty RedHawks against the mighty Cobras in a high flying first half competition, met with plenty of: Around the perimeter shots, impressive layups, man-to-man defenses, full court presses, all being followed up with a lackluster second half.

To begin, the RedHawk Boys ran the tables with the first quarter ending 22-9, the Cobra boys had no answer for three point shots delivered by the right hand of Cooper Jacobson, who banked three threes in just the opening quarter alone. Cooper Jacobson won my player to bank on, from the Farmer’s State Bank, by finishing the game with twenty-two points, four threes, two-for-two at the line, and unofficially five rebounds.

The Cobra Boys sought most of their production from Junior Jace Robinson who finished the game with twelve points, three three-pointers, and scoring the only point in the fourth quarter for the cobras when they entered it 47-32.  Senior Cobra Sean Hayden had a great game under the glass with eight rebounds.

Jackson Heights did have the game within nine points at half time with the score 31-22, but the impressive press defense applied by the sixth year head coach, Garry Smith, was unmatched. Players Ethan Morton, Micheal Jensen, and Lane Kesler made all the wheels turn for the locomotive tonight, especially for the rebounding opportunities.

In the end the Cobras will drop to 4-6 but remain 4-2 in league play and will continue that play tomorrow hosting Oskiloosa at home, then JCN on Thursday. The RedHawks will look towards their league opponents going forward as they improve to 5-6 overall and remaining 2-3 in Big 7 play with Perry Lecompton and Nemaha Central up next.
