Newest KBCA Rankings Released After First Week of Mid-Season Tournaments

With one week of mid-season tournaments now in the books, the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released its newest set of rankings.

In the Class 3A girls rankings, Nemaha Central is up one spot to number five after a 51-30 victory over Marysville.

Riverside is still number one in Class 2A after cruising through the MIT with a 54-42 win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy in the championship game.

As for the Ravens, they remain number eight with the KBCA deciding not to drop them in the rankings despite their championship defeat.

Valley Heights tumbles down the rankings for the second consecutive week as the Mustangs find themselves number ten. They went 1-2 in the Twin Valley League tournament with a loss to Centralia in the semifinals and a loss to Hanover in the third-place game.

Despite losing their first game of the season, Clifton-Clyde remains number two in Class 1A-D1. They fell to Centralia 58-56 in the championship game this past Saturday.

Frankfort stays stagnant at number four in the state with a fifth-place finish in the tournament. They lost to Hanover in the quarterfinals but got wins over Axtell and Doniphan West.

Surprisingly, Centralia doesn’t get any love from the KBCA this week as they stay at number six despite winning arguably the most difficult mid-season basketball tournament in the state of Kansas. They got two wins over ranked teams en route to their second league tournament title in the last three years.

Hanover’s third-place finish drops them one spot in the Class 1A-D2 rankings to number three.

In the Class 4A boys rankings, moves up a spot to number two. The Phoenix are unbeaten and won the Tonganoxie Invitational this past weekend. They defeated KC Metro Academy in the championship game by a final score of 65-59.

Sabetha is back in the rankings at number ten in Class 3A after a brief departure. The Bluejays are coming off a runner-up finish in the Burlington Invite this past weekend. They defeated Silver Lake in a thriller 66-64 but came up short against Rock Creek 57-48 on Saturday in the finale.

In the Class 1A-D1 rankings, Clifton-Clyde is the highest-ranked team from the Twin Valley League at number five. The Eagles are down one spot from last week after finishing third place in the league tournament. They fell to Axtell in the semifinals but won against Centralia 45-42 on Saturday.

Axtell went back to being the highest-ranked TVL team in Class 1A-D2 after winning the league tournament. After the aforementioned win against Clifton-Clyde, they defeated Hanover 48-34 in the championship. They are now number two in the rankings with Hanover dropping a spot to number four.
