Day one of the Jefferson County North Girls Invitational is in the books with four teams headed to the semifinal round.

Perry-Lecompton took care of Oskaloosa by a final score of 42-24 with Taylor Damme leading all scorers with 13 points. The Kaws’ defense held Oskaloosa to just 14 points in the first three quarters and allowed only three points in the third quarter.

Korie Kirkwood scored 18 points for Valley Falls, but it wasn’t enough as the Dragons fell 46-32 against the NEK Nighthawks. Valley Falls was only able to score four points in the fourth quarter after scoring a modest 14 in the third quarter.

Rossville was all over ACCHS with the final score being 78-16. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 35-3 in the first quarter and had a halftime lead of 52-3.

Jefferson County North survived with a 51-48 win over Atchison. Presley Simpson scored a game-high 27 points for the Phoenix with Kaiya Downing adding 10. Clara Johnson led the Chargers in scoring with 16 points as the senior drained four three-pointers. Abby Laird also scored 11, and Emily Langley scored 10 points.

The tournament will resume on Friday with Rossville versus Perry-Lecompton at 6:00 p.m. in the high school gym in the first championship semifinal with the second semifinal immediately as Jefferson County North takes on the NEK Nighthawks. In the middle school gym, Atchison plays Valley Falls at 6:00 p.m. in the first consolation semifinal, and that’s followed up by ACCHS versus Oskaloosa at 7:30 p.m.
