An Insane Cobra Comeback from the Jackson Heights Cobras Against the JCN Chargers in Close Match-up
By Kryndon Proffitt

Intro

A battle for the NEKL continues after boys mid-season tournament play with the Jackson Heights Cobras taking on the Jefferson County North Chargers. The cobras were 4-2 in league play and the chargers were 5-1 coming into the night, but with a possible upset win from JH they could move up to number two in league play. Entering the night both teams were very hungry to battle against each-other for the first time this season. Even though this game started slow, it definitely finished intensely with the Cobras battling out and coming out on-top with a come back to win the game 37-26.

Jackson Heights Vs Jefferson County North (37-26)

The first quarter of play was all JCN with the first quarter ending 12-6 in favor of the Chargers. Andy Baker in the first quarter had six points alone for the chargers, while on the other end of the court the snakes were struggling to get into the game. Jumping into the second quarter is when it turned it grandpa’s nap time, both teams put up only four points each, with the halftime score staying in Charger’s favor 16-10. The Chargers may have not been able to take the best shots but they were rolling slowly, Carson McAfee even finished the game with thirteen total points. Things did look good early on for the Chargers, especially when JCN started the scoring in the third. But then, things changed. The Jackson Heights Cobras went on an incredible second half run, posting up twenty-seven points in the second half alone with momentum changing threes from both Jayden Gueye and Drake Mellies. The Cobras also had help from inside the paint from the absolute unit that stands about 6’5 in Sean Hayden, who captured for himself six points, 10 rebounds (unofficially), and two blocks on the game. After the Cobras took the lead 21-20 in the late third quarter it was no looking back and they never gave the lead back to the chargers. My player to bank on by the Farmers State Bank was Jayden Gueye who had eleven points for the Cobras, but also had the momentum changing back to back threes.

Summary

Tonight both teams battled out in a NEKL duel that led to the victorious cobras now 5-2 in league play, which will tie JCN in league play. JCN will fall to 5-2 in league play, but will move down to third because now the Cobras will own the matchup tiebreaker. Jackson Heights will look to keep this impressive NEKL play on the road next week versus ACCHS on Friday. As for JCN they will continue league play against Pleasant Ridge next week.
