The Centralia boys punched their ticket to the Class 1A-D1 Doniphan West Sub-State Championship game with a 58-47 victory against Troy.

Troy started the ballgame with a 6-0 run to start the game, but Centralia bounced right back and cut the deficit to 8-6. From there, it was back and forth for the rest of the quarter with the Trojans holding on to a 17-16 lead. Jack Hartman had eight points in the quarter and Gannon Bowe added six more for Troy. Paxton Bowers had an efficient start with seven points in the opening eight minutes.

In the second quarter, it stayed close the whole way, but Centralia was able to find a way to keep their offense red hot and their defense settled in. They held the Trojans to just ten points in the quarter and had a 31-27 at the break. Bowers led all scorers with 13 points going into the locker room.

The first 5:30 of the third quarter produced just seven total points, but in the final 2:30, the Panthers went on a run and got their largest lead of the game to that point at 46-32 going into the fourth quarter. Reese Tanking struck it rich late in the frame with eight points in the quarter.

To start the fourth quarter, Centralia kept making shots and were able to pull away despite a few turnovers sprinkled in.

Bowers led all scorers with 24 points and seven rebounds, making him our Farmers State Bank of Onaga Player of the Game. Tanking had 16 points, and Timmel had 10 points with an additional 13 rebounds. The Trojans were led by Bowe, Hartman and Seth Judd, who all had 10 points. Christian Etherton also had nine points.

The Panthers will square off against Bishop Seabury in the championship game for the right to get to the state tournament. Tipoff will be at 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on 92.1 FM KMZA.
