The Atchison boys basketball team won their Class 4A Sub-State on Saturday advancing to the State Tournament with a 64-37 win over Parsons.

Atchison beat El Dorado 70-32 in the first game of Sub-State earlier in the week.

The Phoenix offense has been one of the best in the state throughout the season with multiple games scoring 80+ and even one game where they scored 95 against Sumner Academy in early February.

Atchison made the State Tournament last season with a record of 19-3 and lost in the first-round game against Bishop Miege.

The Phoenix will enter the 2024 State Tournament in Salina with a record of 20-2 which earned them the #2-seed behind only undefeated McPherson. Atchison will face #7-seed (18-4) Rock Creek on Thursday, March 7th at 6:00 PM.

Head coach Pat Battle: “We are honored to be going back to the State Tournament. This group is motivated to make sure that it is more than just a one-day affair.”

“Atchison is a basketball town with a proud history so it is an honor to be part of and contribute that tradition. The community is very excited which makes it more special.”

KAIR 93.7 FM will be carrying all Atchison games from Salina.
