Sabetha and NV Girls Advance to Sub-Finals

The Big 7 stood strong against current DVL and future Big 7 League members as Sabetha and Nemaha Valley advanced to the finals at Class 3A Sub-State in Hiawatha.  The Bluejays have beaten the Raiders twice this season, by just four points in their last meeting and will play Saturday night at 6:00 PM in the Roundhouse for a trip to the State Tournament. 

Nemaha Valley 48, ACCHS 41
It a tight game with 11 ties and 9 lead changes, #4 seed Nemaha Valley knocked off #1 seed ACCHS as the final score (7 points) was the biggest margin of the night for either team.  ACCHS had two key players foul out midway through the fourth quarter and NV hit their final four free throws to complete the upset win.  The game was tied at 10 after one quarter and ACCHS led 22-21 at halftime before taking a 36-34 advantage into the final stanza.  The Lady Tigers managed only five points however in the fourth quarter and end their season at 19-3.  Rachel Newquist had 13 points before fouling out and the Tigers were only 2 of 19 from behind the arc.  Nemaha Valley got 17 points from Jaci Swart while older sister Jill added 11 as the Lady Raiders improved to 14-8. 

Sabetha, 47, Riverside 30
Riverside went scoreless for an 8-minute stretch in the first half and dug themselves a 25-14 halftime deficit, they could never recover and get the game back to single digits, making just one field-goal in the third quarter.  Sabetha hit 23 of 33 free thows including 10 makes in the fourth quarter.  Alexis McAfee scored all 10 of her points in the first half when Sabetha pulled away and Ashley Schmelzle finished with 10 points as well.  Ashley Annan added 9 as the Lady Jays improved to 16-6 on the season. Ashleigh Bristol was 8 of 8 from the line and scored her game-high 10 points all in the second half before Riverside closed their season at 17-5.
