Rossville Softball Uses Seven-Run First Inning to Win at Sabetha

The Rossville softball team traveled to Sabetha on Thursday, April 17 to take on the Bluejays in a Big East League doubleheader. 

Game one of the doubleheader was broadcast live on 103.9 KNZA and the Bulldogs used a seven-run first inning to pull away with a 14-2 five-inning victory. 

The Bulldogs sent 11 players to the plate in the top of the first inning getting those seven runs on four hits. 

Falyn Clurman had an RBI single, Nora Burdiek drove in two with a single, Shailee Hubbell had an RBI single, and Adyson Henry added an RBI groundout. 

Rossville would continue to add throughout the game scoring one in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. 

Leni Lewis finished the game 3-for-4 with a single in the first, a solo home run in the second, and a two RBI double in the third. 

Clurman pitched all five innings and gave up two runs, five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. 

The Bluejays got one run in the second inning thanks to two base hits from Krysta Menold and Brooke Wiltz. They got their only other run in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout by Halley Mitchell. 

Sabetha would bounce back in game two and beat Rossville 20-10 earning the split.
