Jackson Heights took on their Northeast Kansas League opponent Maur Hill on the road tonight and won convincingly 69-6. Which was the most points Jackson Heights has scored in a game since 2002. Jackson Heights is still leading the all-time series versus Maur Hill now 9-5.
The Jackson Heights Cobras spotted thirty-six points in the first quarter and ended the first half up 61-6. The Cobras were able to take out their starters after the first half, and install the running clock with about four minutes left to go in the second quarter.
Drake Mellie’s led the Cobras with five touchdowns, two on the ground and three in the air. All three of Mellie’s connections for scores were to Austin Zeller who made up most of Mellie’s passing yards and completions.
A total of six Jackson Heights players scored touchdowns with Mellies, Zeller, Ian Allen, Kolby Bowhey, Tatum Eisenbarth, and Brody Browning all coming through for scores. The speedy freshman, Tatum Eisenbarth, finished with another game with over a hundred yards rushing, this time adding two 30+ yard touchdown runs.
Jackson Heights scored on ten of their eleven total drives, while Maur Hill scored on just one of their eleven possessions. The Cobras turned the ball over once on a fumble while the Ravens turned it over three times, with the Maur Hill’s freshman quarterback throwing an interception to both Mellies and Kolby Bowhey, while the third Raven turnover was a fumble recovery by Brody Browning.
The lone score of the game for Maur Hill came in the second quarter down 48-0, where Maur Hill had a two-play drive where freshman quarterback Zaedyn Harper connected with Jayce Campbell for a 72-yard passing touchdown. The first score of the Ravens season.
Jackson Heights improved to 2-0 on the season and in the league while Maur Hill fell to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the league. The Cobras go back home for Homecoming next week against Horton, while the Ravens stay at home and take on Maranatha next Friday.
