The 3A Hiawatha Redhawks hosted the 3A Jefferson West Tigers and 2A Rossville Bulldogs at the roundhouse tonight for a volleyball triangular. Hiawatha would lose both its matches against the Tigers and Bulldogs. At the same time, Rossville would split the night, and Jefferson West would keep it perfect, winning both games against Hiawatha and Rossville.

Jefferson West over Hiawatha (25-15, 25-13)

Jefferson West took back-to-back strong sets against the Hiawatha Redhawks, facing just the second time this season. Jefferson West’s Liz Deeter had two kills, two blocks, and an ace in the victory against Hiawatha. Both Savannah Jackson and Harriet Dean put down two aces behind the service line to help the Tigers dominate the Redhawks. In total, the Jeff West Tigers had fifteen kills, six aces, and four blocks against Hiawatha and held their outside hitters in check in both sets. Brynnan Boye led the Redhawks in points against Jeff West with two blocks, a kill, and an ace.

Jefferson West over Rossville (25-8, 25-18)

Jefferson West was quick to get up on Rossville in set one to take a quick 25-8 set victory, while set two was a more back-and-forth battle until the Tigers pulled it away in the end. Tiger’s outside hitter Addison Schwinn completely took the floor away with twelve kills, two aces, and a block against the Bulldogs, finishing the day with fifteen total kills and three total aces. Apart from Schwinn being unstoppable, Emmie Dean was quite the workhorse with two aces, three kills, and two blocks down for points for the Tigers. The Tigers’ front row net play was unbreakable and unmatched for the Bulldogs, serving Rossville up their first match and set losses of the season. Nora Burdiek led in kills for Rossville with four against Jefferson West.

Rossville over Hiawatha (25-22, 25-21)

Rossville and Hiawatha had arguably the toughest two sets up the night, with two very close final scores. Rossville was down early 17-13 in set one, but would come back from behind in the set and get the thrilling victory. Nora Burdiek had a bigger game against the Redhawks with eight kills and an ace, while Kenna Perine had three kills, an ace, and a block. Rossville finished with seventeen kills against Hiawatha and three aces. Adison Williams had the most impressive Redhawk performance in the match with three aces and a kill, but Clair Twombly would be right behind in performance with three kills.

Summary

The Jefferson West Tigers improve to 11-3 on the season as well as 5-1 in Big East play. The Rossville Bulldogs have had their undefeated winning streak halted, now standing at 10-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play. Hiawatha drops to an overall of 3-12 and 0-5 in the Big East league.
