In their only meeting this season, Perry Lecompton put together a pair of really strong second half performances to sweep Big East road wins at Holton.
GIRLS - Perry Lecompton 47, Holton 41
Playing in their fourth home game in December, the Holton girls came out on fire and hit four triples in the opening quarter to take an 18-7 lead. The Wildcats maintained a 24-16 advantage at halftime, but went cold in the third quarter as Perry took control with a 15-4 run and never gave up the lead. Momentum carried into the fourth quarter as the Kaws extended the run to a 23-6 spurt and took control at 39-30 early in the fourth frame.
Perry had a dominant advantage on the boards and Macie Corcoran and Emmy Reed turned up the offense in the third period with Perry took over and starting converting second and third chance opportunities. They also forced Holton into four straight turnovers. Corcoran finished with 11 of her 17 points in the second half while Reed had 7 of her 9 in the final two quarters and Tatum Calovich got 9 of her 12 in the last two stanza's as well. Perry made just 13 of 23 free throws and hit just two treys, with Jolie Corcoran and Devin Aldrich dialing it up from deep before improving to 4-2 on the season.
Holton was led by Lili Tanking who hit three triples in the first quarter to help Holton to a quick start and finished with 10 points in the fourth for a game-high 19-point effort. Beka Lassey nearly had a triple-double with 10 points and more than 10 rebounds but just shy of 10 blocks while Olivia Doney had her best game of the year with 8 points, including a couple three-pointers, and a few assists. Holton fell to 0-5 on the season.
BOYS = Perry Lecompton 72, Holton 65
Similar to the girls, the Perry Lecompton boys pulled away from a 33-33 tie at halftime and used a 25-17 third quarter to take control and not give up the lead. Trailing 58-50 entering the fourth period, Holton cut the gap to five points and had a possession to get closer but came up just short in their closest game of the season.
The first half featured 10 lead changes as the teams traded punches and Holton led 17-14 after one stanza and by as many as 23-16 in the second frame. Perry took the biggest lead of the night at 50-39 and would knock down 13 three-point-shots before securing the game going 6 of 8 from the charity stripe.
Colby Krein scored 28 points and hit 8 treys while Houston Habiger added 22 points and three triples. Easton Graves had 11 points as well as Perry boys improved to 5-1 on the season returning zero starters from last year's team.
Holton hit 9 three's including three from Easton Moulin in his best nine-point game of the season. Devon Terwilliger also knocked down a few treys and scored 15 points while Korben Fox added 14 points and Kerrick DeDonder led the Wildcats with 19, including 13 of those in the fourth quarter to keep the Cats close. Grant Warner had his best game with 8 points as well as Holton scored 17 more points than any other game this year, but fell to 0-5 while allowing at least 69 points for the fourth time in five contests.
