The Frankfort Wildcats (8-Seed) were taken down in an overtime brawl against the much improved since last season Washington County Tigers (9-seed). It was a game primarily dominated by Frankfort through and through until the second half, even with a chance to win at the end of regulation before overtime.
Frankfort came out of the first quarter up 14-12 after Henry Ketter finished the quarter with a steal and transitioned into a layup. Much of the first quarter was offensive for both sides. In the second quarter, Frankfort got up 20-12 before Washington County would bounce back and respond midway through the second quarter to make it 22-22, with some impressive three-point shooting from Eli Chandler and Chayse Gross. Frankfort managed to re-separate the score and go into the half up 31-25. Wes Anderson finished with fifteen points on the half for Frankfort as he was on fire, while Michael Peterson had eight points to lead Washington County, but he was in foul trouble.
The third quarter was mostly a scoring drought for both teams, with Frankfort only scoring two points in the third while Washington County put up six, including another three-pointer from Eli Chandler. Frankfort would be up 33-31 going into the fourth quarter and held onto the lead by a thread for most of the quarter, until Washington County tied it at 41-41. Frankfort had plenty of time with a little over twenty seconds to score, but couldn’t find a way to get the ball in the basket like they could in the first half.
Washington County took no time to jump out in overtime, snagging its first lead since the second quarter of the game. Chayse Gross had one of his best quarters this season for Washington County, and it was only in the span of four minutes with fourteen points and two rebounds. Washington County would run away with the game in OT, 57-47.
Despite the loss, the Frankfort Wildcats had an impressive night from Wes Anderson with 24 points and Fred Rosequist with 10 ponts 15 rebounds, and five steals.
Washington County moves on to face Hanover (1-Seed) on Monday at 7:45 PM. Frankfort will take on Valley Heights (11-Seed) on Thursday at 4:30 PM.
