St. Marys High School hosted its girls wrestling invitational on Saturday, welcoming nearly 30 teams from across the region for a full day of competitive action on the mats.
Silver Lake emerged as the team champion, finishing the tournament with 140 points to narrowly edge Shawnee Mission Northwest, which placed second with 132.5 points. Maur Hill–Mount Academy rounded out the top three with 92 points. Doniphan West followed closely in fourth place with 88 points, while Rossville completed the top five with 77.5 points.
Silver Lake’s championship performance was fueled by three individual first-place finishes. Kamiryn Clark claimed the title at 100 pounds, McKenna Harris captured gold at 135 pounds, and MaKayla Connor secured first place at 155 pounds. Those strong individual efforts, combined with solid depth throughout the lineup, proved to be the difference in the team standings.
Maur Hill–Mount Academy was led by a pair of champions as well, with Emma Vice earning first place at 125 pounds and Hollie Finneran taking the top spot at 140 pounds. Their victories helped the Ravens maintain a strong presence near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament.
Several other wrestlers delivered standout performances by claiming individual titles in their respective weight classes. Andi Wegman of Onaga won at 105 pounds, while host school St. Marys celebrated a first-place finish from Taylee Poppelreiter at 110 pounds. Makinley Daniels of Oskaloosa captured the championship at 130 pounds, Oktavija Burnett of Atchison took first at 145 pounds, and Layla Kunhert of Doniphan West closed out the tournament with a title at 190 pounds.
