St. Marys High School hosted its boys wrestling invitational on Saturday, drawing a strong field of more than 20 teams, including several high-classification programs, for a competitive day of action on the mats.
Class 6A powerhouse Manhattan captured the team championship in dominant fashion, finishing with 215 points. Blue Valley Southwest claimed second place with 115 points, while Oskaloosa finished close behind in third with 111.5 points. Onaga placed fourth with 93.5 points, and Tonganoxie rounded out the top five with 92 points.
Manhattan’s depth and experience were on full display throughout the tournament, as the Indians crowned four individual champions to help separate themselves from the rest of the field. Their consistent success across multiple weight classes proved to be the key to securing the team title.
Despite Manhattan’s dominance, several local wrestlers delivered standout performances by earning individual championships. Jesse Miller of Onaga claimed first place at 113 pounds, while Nemaha Central’s Harry Langill captured the title at 126 pounds.
Silver Lake’s Sam Bruntz took home gold at 132 pounds, and Doniphan West produced a pair of champions with Brenner Lowe winning at 190 pounds and Gabe Johnson earning first place at 215 pounds. Jefferson West’s Osiris Unruh capped off the heavyweight division by finishing first at 285 pounds.
