Schirmer Continues to Guide Valdosta State to Excellence

This week's "Blast from the Past" is Deandra Schirmer who is currently the head women’s basketball coach at Valdosta State University in Valdosta Georgia.

Schirmer is a graduate of Holton High School and just completed her third season as head coach.

This season, Schirmer led the Blazers to a 26-6 record and 17-2 conference record. They advanced all the way to the NCAA Division II Tournament Quarterfinals before losing to Western Washington by three.

They ranked fifth in the final D2 rankings that were released earlier this week.

Schirmer was named the Gulf South Conference East Division Coach of the Year last season and posted a top-15 finish in the final 2021 rankings.

Schirmer had been an assistant coach at Eckerd College in Florida for five years prior to going to Valdosta State and was elevated to Associate Head Coach in 2018. Her overall record in three seasons with the Blazers is 62-21.

She was an All-State performer at Holton in basketball and volleyball and she also lettered in softball and cross country while receiving the prestigious Naismith Award.

Her basketball career continued at Cloud County Community College where she earned All-Conference and All-Region Honors.
