Former Marysville Bulldog, Garrison Wright Making Impact On Gophers O-Line
Garrison Wright

From playing at Marysville high school to now playing in front of over 50,000 at TCF Bank Stadium with the University of Minnesota that is what former Marysville Bulldog, Garrison Wright has accomplished.

Wright a redshirt-junior at Minnesota transferred to the Gophers football program this year after playing a few years at Butler Community College and jumped right into the mix on the Gophers offensive line starting all 12 games this season. The former Bulldog has helped Minnesota to an 8-4 record this season and for the fifth straight year the Gophers earned a bid to a bowl game. Garrison has been a true teammate helping the Gophers offensive in many ways starting at four different spots on the line with five starts at left tackle, three at right tackle, three at right guard and one at left guard. On the year Wright has been a part of an offensive line for Minnesota that has accounted for 4,365 total yards with 41 touchdowns, averaging 363.8 yards per game.

In the Big Ten the Minnesota offense ranks fourth in scoring with 30.3 points per game and fifth in rushing yards per game with 186.4 yards per game. The o-line also has only give up 15 sacks all season which is the second best in the Big Ten and tied for 19th nationally.

Wright before getting to Minnesota continued his football career at the college level out of high school at Butler Community College and spent three years there including a redshirt season. He developed and worked on the offensive line at tackle and his sophomore year the Butler Grizzles went 9-2 and finished #5 in the NJCAA rankings and Jayhawk conference Champs as he blocked for an offense that posted 4,100+ yards with 52 touchdowns and individually earned first team All-Jayhawk conference honors.

In high school Wright was a multiple sport athlete competing on the football field for Marysville, but also played basketball and tennis and qualified for State in tennis three times. He also became only the third Marysville athlete to achieve the 1,100-pound club (combined bench press, squats and clean lift numbers).

Minnesota and Wright are looking to wrap up the season on a high note as they are set to compete on Tuesday, December 27th in San Diego at the Holiday Bowl against Washington State. (Feature article & video by Minnesota Athletic department - click here
