Former Axtell Eagle, Burke Deters Off and Running Finding Success in College at Cloud County
Burke Deters

Running is the name of the game for Burke Deters and he plenty of success in high school at Axtell in cross country and track and now is translating that success to the college level of competition at Cloud County Community College.

Deters in his first year at Cloud County has helped the T-birds to a 19th ranking in the latest NJCAA DI polls and plenty of team success while finding individual success. In the first meet of the year behind a time of 21:38.12 Deters placed 13th out of 89 runners and Cloud County took third as a team at the Masterson Invitational hosted by Hutchinson.

At the most recent competition Deters posted a time of 28:45.59 to place 31st at Emporia State out of 138 runners, while the Cloud County men once again registered a third place team. At the Woody Greeno/Dirkson Invitational the T-Birds took third as a team in the “Gold Division” which included NCAA DII, NAIA and NJCAA schools, Burke helped that strong team performance by finishing 37th with a time of 28:48.60. In the other competition Deters has raced in he finished 83rd at the Colorado College Invitational (31:16.90) racing in the altitude.

In high school Deters enjoyed plenty of success including winning the Class 1A cross country State title his junior year (17:32.17). As a senior Deters finished his cross country career with an 11th place (18:08.07) finish at 1A State competition and took seventh at Twin Valley League meet that year, he also competed at State as a sophomore placing 14th. On the track Deters notched a fifth and sixth place finish in the two-mile run in 1A State competition his junior and senior years, respectively and also participated in football and basketball while in high school.

Just getting into his college running career Deters has a bright future ahead of him as he looks to continue to improve his year as a freshman and help his team put together more strong performances, also.
