Michael Majors

The Indoor Track and field season is in the books and former Jeff West Tiger, Michael Majors put forth a solid Indoor season at Washburn in his sophomore year.

Majors etched his name in the Washburn track and field record books in his final performance of the Indoor season taking sixth at the MIAA Championships in the shot put with a throw 54’07.75 to break the school record that has stood at Washburn since 1980. The throw was also good enough for a NCAA provisional mark. The former Jeff West Tiger also finished 19th in the weight throw at the MIAA Championships with a toss of 48’03.50.

During the Indoor season Majors recorded 13 Top 20 finishes in the shot put and weight throw combined. Michael opened the Indoor season with a second place finish in the weight throw (50’04.5) and fourth place shot put (45’05) at the Bob Timmons Challenge. He also registered fourth place finishes in both the shot put and weight throw at the Jayhawk Classic and DeLoss Dodds Invitational.

Freshman year Majors posted a pair of eighth place finishes at the UCM relays and MSSU Invitational in the Indoor season in the shot put and placed sixth in the shot put and discus in the MIAA vs NSIC Showdown in the outdoor season. He also earned MIAA Academic honor roll honors.

In high school at Jeff West, Majors was a multi-sport athlete not only competing in track but football and wrestling, also. Majors was a multi-time Big Seven League shot put championship and qualified for State multiple years including a third place finish at State his junior year.

Majors now looks to translate his strong Indoor performance to the Outdoor season and continue his Washburn track and field career.
