Centralia Shutouts Opponent for 3rd Straight Week in Beating Onaga on the road
By Mike Smith

Centralia Panthers lost quite a few key cogs to from their state championship last season, so one might have thought the Panthers might be slightly rebuilding this year, well Centralia doesn't rebuild the just reload. The Panthers through the first three weeks have showcased they are on par again for another great season.

Centralia made it three straight weeks that they pitched a shutout, cruising to a 42-0 road victory over fellow Twin Valley League foe the Onaga Buffalos, after Onaga earned their first TVL league win in seven years the week before. The Panthers assumed control of the game early and didn't look back.

In the first half Centralia put up 35 of their 42 points, scoring all of their first half drives outside of two with one of those ending due to the end of the half. Scoring drives came quick for Centralia with no scoring drive in the first half going longer than five plays and slightly over two minutes. Panthers struck first with a 43 yard touchdown run on junior tailback, Sam Steinlage's second carry of the game.

After the Steinlage touchdown it would be short fields for the Panthers as the Buffalos turned the ball over three times in the first half and five times overall in the game with three fumbles and two interceptions. The second touchdown of the game was setup by a Devin Rempe interception for Centraila of Onaga quarterback, Mitchell Kufahl, ran back to inside the 10 yard line, where Panther quarterback, JT Rosine used his legs and ran it in for a one yard touchdown.

Panthers would go on to dictate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball running their way to their fourth win of the season. Rosine and Steinlage added another rushing touchdown each in the first half along with a 10 yard touchdown pass from Rosine to Steinlage, also.

Coming out of the half the Panthers looked to work the clock up 35-0 and the Panthers took 6:50 off the clock and went to paydirt once again on 12 plays as Steinlage added his third rushing touchdown of the day.

Rosine and Steinlage both highlighted the contest for Centralia as they are the big playmakers for the Panthers. Rosine finished the game with 83 yards passing on 4-4, also ran for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Steinlage rushed for 110 yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns and 34 yards receiving with a touchdown reception; his performance earned him the Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" award.

All though the Centralia offense put up the numbers and points, it may be the defense that stood out in the game with their third straight shutout of the season. Panthers have only given up 16 total points on the season, all those came in week one.

With the win the Centralia Panthers improve to 4-0 on the season, look to be on their way to yet another 11-man TVL league crown and primed for district play and another run in the playoffs. For the Onaga Buffalos they may have struggled in the game but they will look to bounce back with their now 2-2 record and try and make a run in district play in the weeks to come.
