Three NEKL teams took to the diamond on Wednesday night with two squaring off in League action and the other hosting a non-league opponent. Seneca hosted Frankfort for league action at Swisher Field and came away with a pair of one-run wins, 4-3 and 3-2 to add to their lead in the League standings, while Sabetha took down Marysville 10-7 in non-league action.

Seneca Holds for a Pair of One-Run Wins over Frankfort

Opportunities seemed to be limited in both contests between Seneca and Frankfort on the diamond Wednesday night as the teams played in a pair of tight contests with Seneca taking advantage just enough to edge Frankfort.

Seneca struck first in game one scoring a run in the bottom of the second after the first two guys reached by back-to-back singles and Seneca managed to score one-run to take the 1-0 lead. Frankfort responded in the top of the third with two-runs of their own on a hit batter, walk, one-hit and a costly Seneca error. A misplayed ball in centerfield by Seneca off the bat of Sam Steinlage for Frankfort scored the two-runs in the third, while Frankfort added another in the fourth on a Wyatt VanDorn RBI single making it 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth Dustin Rottinghaus led the inning off for Seneca with a walk and his teammates followed that up with three straight singles, scoring a pair of runs to tie the game at 3-3. Both teams had limited opportunities in the final frames, but it was Seneca taking the lead for good in the bottom of the six as Kurtis Niehues was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off and Kaleb Swart came around to score as his pinch runner and Cody Rottinghaus pitched the top of the seventh to earn the save on the mound and secure Seneca the 4-3 win.

Alex Rottinghaus got the start in the game and went six innings giving up three runs, only one earned on just three hits, four walks and a hit batter, while striking out five earning him the win and McDonald's "Player of the Game" honors on KMZA . Alex also went 1-3 offensively, while Cody Rottinghaus and Niehues led the offense, as Cody finished 3-3 with an RBI and run scored and Niehues was 2-2 with a run scored and was hit by a pitch.

Frankfort in the loss was led by VanDorn who finished 2-3 with a run scored and RBI, registering two of the three Frankfort hits in the game. Derek Porting got the start in the game going four innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out six. Steinlage finished the game on the mound pitching the final two frames and taking the loss.

In game two the opportunities were limited again as the teams combined only for six hits, but the game did feature nine walks between the two teams, too, as Seneca took advantage of their base runners to squeeze out the 3-2 victory over Frankfort.

Seneca struck first in game two scoring a run on a pair of hits and a walk in the bottom of the second to make it 1-0 and added to that lead in the third with a pair of runs in that inning. A Cody Rottinghaus RBI single and a walk and Frankfort error led to the Seneca two-runs in the third and a 3-0 lead for the home team. Devin Henry who started the game for Seneca faced the minimum in the first three innings allowing only one base runner to that point on a walk, got in a slight jam in the fourth and Frankfort plated two runs, led by a two RBI triple by Derek Trimble, bring the game to a 3-2 Seneca advantage. Seneca shut the door in the top of the fifth to secure the win as Cody Rottinghaus notched the final four outs for another save on the night.

Henry picked up the win on the mound officially going three and two-thirds innings giving up two-runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out four. Offensively, Alex Rottinghaus, Cody Rottinghaus and Tim Nolte each recorded one for Seneca's three hits.

Frankfort only add three hits in game two, also as Cody Huerter, Steinlage, and Trimble each notched a hit.

With the sweep Seneca moved to 10-3 on the season and 10-2 in League play this season, while Frankfort fell to 6-8 on the year and 4-5 in League play.

Sabetha's Offense Pushes Them Past Marysville in Non-League Showdown

It was a night of struggles on the mound for Sabetha as Marysville posted eight hits and 10 free passes against four pitchers in the contest, but the offense picked up the pitching for Sabetha using 11 hits to earn the 10-7 non-league win.

Marysville held the early 2-1 lead after scoring a run in the top of the second and third, while Sabetha posted their first score in the bottom of the second, Sabetha changed things suddenly in their favor in the bottom of the third scoring five-runs. Sabetha took the 6-2 lead in the third behind five straight hits, including a three-run double by Blake Popkess. The lead stretched out further in the fourth with three more runs for Sabetha and they led 9-2 after four innings, but Marysville will do their best to capitalize on opportunities through the next few innings. Marysville chipped away at the lead plating two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but Sabetha added another of their own in the bottom of the sixth and Taylor Bauman got the final two outs of the game to earn the save and secure the 10-7 win for Sabetha.

Brandon Poe picked up the pitching win going four and one-third innings for the win, while Bauman notched the save his fifth of the season. Popkess paced the offense with three hits, three RBI's and a pair of runs scored. While, Bauman, Dustin Boeckman and Gaven Schumann all notched two hits; for Bauman both of his hits were for extra bases as he had a double and triple.

With the win Sabetha improved to 13-11 on the season and improved their home record to .500 on the season at 8-8.
