League cross country meets took place all overall the state of Kansas and Northeast Kansas area, yesterday and in the KCA League it was the host team highlighting the contest. The Atchison Redmen saw a first place finish as a team for their boys squad and one-two individual finish for the girls on the day.
It was no contest team wise for the Atchison Redmen boys as they easily totaled the lowest point total on the day of the four schools competing as a teams in the KCA League meet. Atchison totaled a low 19 points with second place going to Harmon who totaled 60 points. Redmen tallied such a low point total behind five runners finishing in the top 10.
The highest boys Redmen individual finish was garnered by Alex Howard (18:29.66) who placed second on the day only two seconds behind the first place finisher from Sumner Academy. Atchison runners, also grabbed fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth places in the league meet. Andrew Adrian took home the fifth place finish, while Sean Larson, Dallas Woolston and Justin Whitmer rounded out the top 10 in that order from eighth to tenth.
For the lady Redmen while they didn't have enough runners to qualify for a team finish that didn't stop them from highlighting things with their four individual girl runners, as they all finished in the top 10. In the girls competition it was the Jaloma show as sisters Hannah and Sarah Jaloma took first and second, respectively with almost mirror image times. Hannah crossed the finish line first by tenths of seconds with a time of 17:04.16 she took first and Sarah took second with a time of 17:04.77. While that is pretty impressive to be that close that's not the most of the impressive part of the Jaloma sisters performances, as they both finished over two and a half minutes faster than the third place finisher.
Hannah and Sarah's teammates both registered top 10 finishes, also as Lucy Newkirk and Marianna Markou finished fifth and eighth.
The Redmen now turn their sights to regionals at Bonner Springs in Class 4A coming up on Saturday October 20th. (Regional information-- click here)
