Horton's Leah Murata & Pleasant Ridge's Tony Weber Win DVL League Cross Country Meet

The like most leagues in the state and in Northeast Kansas, the Delaware Valley League cross country meet took place yesterday and there were plenty of highlights from it with multiple schools having individuals compete for top spots and schools competing well as teams, also.

In the girls competition it was a familiar name if your a Horton Charger fan or pay close attention to cross country in Northeast Kansas, as senior, Leah Murata ran her way to another win this season after winning in the Sabetha competition before the league meet. Murata raced to first with a time of 16:35.00 on the day which was seven seconds better than second place.

Overall in the girls competition on the day there was a lot of parody with five different schools placing a runner individually in the top 10, with only two of those teams having multiple runners in the top 10 in the action. Coming in second place was Jefferson County North Charger, Mallory Kramer; her teammates Laramie Leakey and Carissa McAfee registered top 10 finishes, also on the day taking ninth and tenth, respectively. After Kramer in the top five it was three different schools having a race finish, as the top five featured five different runners from five different schools.

Placing third was Connor Schultz of Riverside, seven seconds behind second place and 24 seconds ahead of fourth place finisher from Pleasant Ridge, Rachel Hattok. ACCHS Tiger, Madison Bissell rounded out the top five girls finisher, placing fifth. Like JCN, Pleasant Ridge placed multiple runners in the top 10, as Rams runners finished sixth and seventh on top of Hattok's fourth place. Kristina Silvers and Hailey Worthington registered those finishes for the Rams, respectively. While, Jackson Height Cobra, Kaitlynn Little grabbed another top 10 finish this year placing eighth.

With three runners each in the top 10 Pleasant Ridge and JCN both had the top team finishes on the day. The Rams took home first place with 40 total points, while JCN tallied 54 points good for second. ACCHS Tigers, young team registered a third place finish.

On the boys side, it was KC Christian highlight the top 10 with five runners in the top 10 leading to the team crown for the Panthers. Jackson Heights and JCN followed them in the team standings grabbing a second and third place finish, respectively.

Individually it was Pleasant Ridge's, Tony Weber (17.48.00) who came out on top as he finished in first place eight seconds better than second place finisher. Second place, fourth through sixth and eighth places went to KC Christian runners. Dallas Edwards, of JCN raced his way to a top finish as the top boy Charger to finish in the top 10, registering a third place finish.

Jackson Heights was the only other boys team outside of KC Christian to capture multiple top 10 individual finishes as three Cobras grabbed top 10 finishes. Eric Mellenbruch was the highest Cobra finisher on the day with a seventh place finish, while his teammates, Seth Holliday and Carlos Pino took home a ninth and tenth place finish, respectively.

With the league meet in the books some schools will turn their sights to regionals coming up Saturday October 20th (Regional information -- click here) but for some schools they will run in the Jackson Heights Invite on October 16th before regionals.
