Centralia's Koch & Axtell's A. Schmitz Win Twin Valley League Cross Country Meet

The regular season of cross country action has wrapped up for most schools and their runners with league meets this past week and the Twin Valley League was one of those leagues.

It was two familiar faces in cross country action in Northeast Kansas and the state captured individual title crowns at the meet. Centralia Panther, Lukas Koch and Axtell Eagle, Audrey Schmitz once more this season one another race this time racing their way to the league titles.

In the girls competition it was Schmitz cruising to a victory with a time of 16:40.27, almost two minutes and thirty seconds better than second place on the day. Schmitz was joined in the top 10 by two of her teammates as Axtell Eagles, Tricia Schmitz and Susan Peschel took home a second and sixth place finish, respectively. These three top 10 finishes helped the Eagles to a team first place finish on the day. Washington finished second and Onaga third as a team.

Washington's second place team finish was sparked by four top 10 finishers on the day taking fifth, seventh, eighth and tenth places individually. Mandi Allerheiligen, Madison Stone, Gabryelle Gilliam and Tiffany Hatlesohl registered those places for the Tigers in that order.

The other top 10 finishers on the day went to runners from Clifton-Clyde, Centralia and Valley Heights. Third place went to Abby Sikes from Clifton-Clyde; Centralia's, Julia Kluta registered a fourth place finish, while Taylor Doner took home ninth place.

For the boys competition it top finishers were closer in time than that of the girls competition. It was a Koch- Koch finish at the top in the number one and two spots. Centralia Panther runner, Lukas Koch ran his way to yet another win like he has all season, this time registering a time of 16:17.17. Lukas was followed by Adam Koch of Frankfort who came in second place only 17 seconds back of Lukas.

Adam was joined in the top 10 by his Frankfort Wildcat teammate Sheldon Parthemer who finished tenth place, helping Frankfort to a second place finish as a team. Frankfort followed up the Tigers of Washington County who placed first as a team, with Axtell taking third.

Washington County runners, snatched up three individual top 10 performances locking up third, eighth and ninth places. Dylan Hodgson lead the way for the Tigers as he finished third, his teammates Evan McGatlin and Jefferson Simmons took home the eighth and ninth. Only one other team outside of Frankfort and Washington County landed multiple runners in the top 10, as the Axtell Eagles registered fourth and fifth place with Tracy Schmitz and Shane Torrey.

Colby Sorell of Clifton-Clyde and Michael Eisenbarth of Onaga took home the other top 10 finishes, taking home sixth and seventh places.
