Centralia Captures Twin Valley League Volleyball Tournament Title
By Mike Smith

Its a league that features three of the top volleyball programs in the state, that's that Twin Valley League. Their annual volleyball league tournament took place over the weekend setting up some big matchups between those top teams and many other good TVL teams.

The top three teams who all finished for a tie in the Twin Valley League regular season action set to meet each other in the tourney and did so all advancing out of their pools. Washington County Tigers one of the top teams in Class 2A got the lucky spot of being number one seed and avoiding both B&B and Centralia until semifinal action. Tigers cruised through their pool going 3-0 to the semifinals with Valley Heights taking second in the pool with the Tigers.

That meet B&B and Centralia both would have to take on each other in pool play and the Panthers top the Falcons in three sets in that matchup on their way to first place in the pool, with B&B finishing second in the pool.

Setting up the semifinals Centralia took on Valley Heights, while B&B had to face Washington County. Both the Panthers and Falcons worked themselves to straight wins in their respective semifinals and setup a rematch from earlier this time for the TVL tournament title.

Just like the first time the Panthers and Falcons played and the other times they've meet up this season, the championship game didn't disappoint as it went three sets, with Centralia grabbing the win and a 5-0 day at the TVL tourney. Panthers took set number one, before the Falcons responded with set two, then Centralia captured the TVL crown with a set three win (25-23, 24-26, 25-20).

Washington County moved past Valley Heights in the third place in straight sets (25-23, 25-21) that were a close contest.

In the Silver Division action of the TVL, which is the ninth through twelfth places in regular season, was highlighted by Linn who won all three of their games; Wetmore went 2-1, Blue Valley-Randolph 1-2 and Clifton-Clyde 0-3.

All the Twin Valley League teams set their sights on sub-state volleyball coming up soon and a few teams have a great chance to make noise at the state tournaments, if they get out of sub-state action.
