It was an action packed Friday and Saturday for Kanzaland area teams in state volleyball action as five teams made their respective state tournaments, with four of them making it out of pool play to play on Saturday.
Great performances were displayed by many and that easily included the Kanzaland area teams and athletes, as 10 players were named to the All-State teams in Class 2A, 1A-Division I and 1A-Division II.
In Hays, Kansas were the action was going on for 1A-Division I and II it was the B&B Falcons flying high as they locked up yet another state title, making it back-to-back state titles in 1A-Division II. Lady Falcons, utilized a true team effort to get to that state but there were some performances that stood out. Falcons, leader in multiple stat categories and a two-time All-State player, junior outside hitter, Laura Sudbeck made the All-State tourney team with her performance at state. She was joined by two of her teammates, in junior setter, Ashley Kramer and junior libero, Katie Huerter. Kramer set up a barrage of plays throughout the tourney for the Falcons setting up spikes for Subdeck and her Falcons teammates. For Huerter, she was a big leader on the floor coming up with huge plays to keep points alive in multiple volleys. Both Huerter and Sudbeck made the All-State tournament team for the second time.
The Falcons finished the season a strong 40-5 and back-to-back Class 1A-Division II state champs.
For Class 1A-Division I it was the Centralia Panthers working their way to a third place finish, having all five matches they played go three sets at the state tourney. While, head coach Kimbrook Tennal will tell you its truly a team performance by the Panthers, you might get that indication we you see that only one Panther made the All-State tourney team. Junior outside hitter, Kaitlyn Koch who leads the Panthers in kills was right up at the top in that category of the state tournament.
Panthers finished their season with a win an took third place at state in Class 1A-Division I , while tallying a 40-5 record on the season.
In Class 2A, two Kanzaland area teams were featured in the state tournament and both made it to the second day of action. The Jefferson County North Chargers made it as the seven seed to the semifinals but fell in both the semi's and third place game to register a fourth place finish at state. While, the Washington County Tigers brought home a Class 2A state title going a perfect 5-0 in competition at state.
Six, Kanzaland area volleyball athletes put their names on the Class 2A All-State tourney team, as Washington county placed four girls on the team and JCN had two. For the Tigers it was outside hitters, sophomore, Erin Alexander and senior, Samantha L'Ecuyer making the team with their senior setter, Kylie Penning and senior middle blocker, Megan Stegman. The Chargers grabbed two spots with a pair of juniors outside hitters in Jacee Kramer and Jamie Navinskey.
Both Washington County and JCN enjoyed great season; as the Tigers finished 41-3 and Class 2A state champs, while JCN took fourth at state and tallied a record of 25-16.
