Six Area Teams Start Volleyball Season Ranked in KVA Preseason Poll

Bump, set, spike the high school volleyball season is upon us and the approach of the start of the season the Kansas Volleyball Association has released their preseason rankings. Six Northeast Kansas area team will start the season in the rankings with four from the Twin Valley League and two from the Northeast Kansas League. 

Class 1A features a trio of TVL teams in the rankings between Division I and II to start the season. In Class 1A-DI the Centralia lead the way for the area teams in the rankings checking in as number two in the initial rankings of the year after going 42-2 last year and finishing State runner-up, while also winning the TVL regular season and tournament titles. The Panthers lost to Goessel in the State title match the Bluebirds are the only team ranked ahead of Centralia to start the 2016 season. The Hanover Wildcats join Centralia in the preseason 1A-DI volleyball rankings as the Wildcats are ranked fourth to start the year after a 30-10 season last year that ended in the Sub-State Championship with a loss to Centralia. 

Class 1A-DII features the Axtell Eagles to start the season as they come in preseason ranked fifth after a 32-11 state runner-up season, matching the best finish in school history at State. The Eagles also finished second in the TVL regular season standings and took fourth in the League tournament. 

The other TVL team in the preseason volleyball rankings comes in Class 2A, while pair of NEKL teams are also ranked in 2A. The Washington County Tigers tallied a 25-11 mark last year finishing third in the TVL tournament and fourth in the regular season, while falling in the Sub-State Semifinals to end last year. This year the Tigers start the 2016 season ranked sixth in Class 2A. Valley Falls and Jefferson County North represent the NEKL in the preseason volleyball rankings as the Dragons start the year ranked fourth and the Chargers check in fifth. The Dragons finished 16-0 in NEKL last year to win the League crown, while notching a 35-4 overall mark but they saw their season end in the Sub-State Championship, while JCN finished 30-9 last year finishing tied for third in the NEKL and wrapped up their season in the Sub-State Semifinals, both teams lost to Wabaunsee in the postseason.
