Sabetha Tennis Wins Season Opening Wamego Invite, While Atchison Takes Third

The girl's tennis got off to a strong start for the Sabetha Bluejays at the Wamego Invitational, while Atchison continued to put forth strong performances after a strong showing earlier in the week against Benton to open their season. 

The Bluejays flew to the top to start the season as they registered 32 points on the day to claim first place as a team out of the five teams competiting. Helping Sabetha to that first place finish was a first place and three second place finishes as the Bluejays finished with a 13-3 overall record on the day. Laura Edelman led the charge going 4-0 in Singles #2 competition. While it was second place performances for the rest of the Bluejays on the day all posting 3-1 records in play as Savanna Metzger took second in Singles #1, the team of Jessica Stallbaumer and Angel Hadachek placed second in Doubles #1 and the tandem of Mackenzie Garber and Mady McGill snagged second in Doubles #2 all helping guide Sabetha to first place as a team. 

Atchison coming off a strong performance against Benton despite the loss continued their strong performances at the Wamego Invitational taking third as a team only four points out of second which went ot the host Wamego. Leading the lady Red was Stormy Knott who notched a 4-0 day in action for first place in Singles #1, while Oliva Wabski grabbed a second place finish in Singles #2 after going 3-1. In doubles action the teams of Alyxus Thomas and Kathy Tull, along with Brianna Dove and Reece Dulac both went 1-3 in Doubles #1 and #2, respectively to each finish fourth place. 

The season rolls along on Monday, August 29th for Atchison as they travel to Lafayette, while Sabetha will continue their season at the Hayden Invitational on Thursday, September 1st.
