Troy 20, Washington County 6

A tight game tied at halftime turned when #4 ranked Washington County muffed the second half kickoff. Two plays later, #1 ranked Troy scored to take a 13-6 lead and then scored again a few minutes later and forced the Tigers into four turnovers in the second half. Taken out of their game, and without All-State tailback Hunter Kier (injury), Washington County managed only 63 total yards in the second half and fell to 5-2 on the season. Troy (7-0) won their first Twin Valley League Title in football and first for the school since claiming the Delaware Valley League crown in 2008.  Cutar Huss had two interceptions on defense and accounted for 200 yards of offense while catching a pair of touchdowns from Reid Greaser in the homecoming victory.

Washington County played a great first half and controlled the football while forcing Troy into a pair of three-and-outs and opening the scoring on an eight-play, 81 yard drive with 1:31 left in the half as Jae Eaton scored on a two-yard run after Jarrod Hoover connected with Dawson Miller on a 50 yard pass play.  Troy answered however on their next offensive play as Greaser hit Huss on a middle fly route for a 73 yard score to tie the game at six.  But the muffed kickoff to start the third quarter shifted all the momentum to Troy and the Tigers were forced to try and throw the football after falling down by two scores.  Hoover completed only one pass in the second half and was 3 of 11 for the game.  Eaton had 35 yards rushing on 15 carries and Hoover toted the ball 16 times for 32 yards.  Washington County is still 2-0 in their 2-1A District with games left against Wabaunsee adn Valley Heights.

Troy was led by the passing attack with Greaser going 17 of 26 for 205 yards and two scores while rushing for a one-yard TD to cap the game scoring with 8:07 left in the third period.  Huss, the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On," had 125 yards receiving on 10 receptions while Brody Winder caught four passes for 44 yards and Troy ran for 121.  The Trojans were held way under their scoring and offensive yardage averages in part because of going 1-10 on third downs and 1-5 on fourth down plays.  They also had 8 penalties for 85 yards, including four untimely defensive flags that gave Washington County first downs.  Wil Smith made the third interception for the Trojan defense and Wyatt Huss had a big game on both sides of the football to earn "Lineman of the Game" honors from the Denison State Banks, as Troy avenged their only regular season loss from a year ago.

Troy goes for another District Title next week with a battle of 7-0 teams at Jefferson County North.
