Burlingame Scores Early and Often in Win Over Valley Falls
By Jonny Kane

The Burlingame Bearcats entered their matchup with Valley Falls undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the state in 8-man D1 outscoring opponents 340-54 on the season.

The Bearcats added to that margin Friday night remaining unbeaten with a 54-0 win in Valley Falls in a game that was ended at halftime.

Burlingame wasted no time jumping out in front of the Dragons as Dalton Sporing connected with senior tight end Zach Herrick on a 24-yard touchdown pass just over a minute into the game.

The Bearcats then elected to go for an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff recovering the football in Dragon territory. Burlingame took advantage of the great field position as Sporing recorded his second touchdown in a 20 second span on a 39-yard run on the first play of the drive.

Burlingame broke the game wide open after Colton Noonan intercepted a Tyler Lockhart pass, as senior runningback Dominic Buterakos scored on a 43-yard run putting the Bearcats up three scores less than four minutes into the contest.

The Bearcats would score four more times in the half on three more passing touchdowns from Sporing and one from freshman Kade Kline while also converting on 6-of-7 two point conversions.

Dalton Sporing finished the half with six total touchdowns going 9-for-12 through the air for 184 yards and five scores, while Dominic Buterakos ran for 80 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. The Bearcats amassed 323 total yards in the half as Colton Noonan also caught three passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Valley Falls (1-6, 0-4 districts) travels to Lost Springs Centre in week 8, while Burlingame (7-0, 4-0) heads to Rural Vista.
