Jackson Heights Boys Win & Girls Take Second at Home XC Invite to Lead Area Performers

The start gun fired off one final time for a few area cross country teams as they competed in one final meet before Regionals on Saturday as Jackson Heights hosted action on Tuesday. 

The host Cobras led the charge for the area performances as the boys team earned first place and the lady Cobras took second place. Jackson Heights boys won the team title at their home meet easily eight guys finished in the Top 10 on the day. Jefferson County North took second place as a team, while Valley Falls took third. Nemaha Central, Holton, Horton and Onaga finished out the boys team standings placing fourth through seventh. Cornerstone, Doniphan West, Riverside and Troy were all also in action. 

In the girls race only three schools fielded full teams with Cornerstone winnin the competition beating the host Jackson Heights by 11 points as the Cobras took second and Jefferson County North third. Troy, Holton, Onaga, Horton and Nemaha Central all had runners also competing in the girls race. 

The day was full of Top 10 performances for the host Jackson Heights Cobras that included the best time in the girls race as Faith Little posted a time of 20:02.52 to win by nearly 25 seconds, while her teammate, Skyla Howe with a time of 24:27.40 took tenth place. Trinity McMahon, Jill Buck, Alexis Rieschick and Hanna Davault placed 12th, 13th, 14th and 17th for the lady Cobras. The Cobra boys took second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth place on the day out of 45 runners. Dalton Chartier led the charge placing second with a time of 18:45.68, while Mark Mavrovich finished third (18:56.02), Drew Holliday fourth (19:07.74), Lane Thomas fifth (19:08.05), Andrew Pino sixth (19:16.93), Ethan Fund eighth (19:26.21) and Xavier Fritz ninth (19:32.99).

The best time in the boys competition belonged to Valley Falls Dragon, Justin Myers who with a time of 18:27.30 won the Jackson Heights Invite. Nathan Pickerell and Noah Hefty posted finishes of 14th and 16th also for the Dragons. 

A pair of Top 10 finishes in the girls race led the JCN Chargers as Sarah Domann and Rose Wendiling notched finishes of fifth and seventh behind times of 24:14.74 and 24:23.05. Andrew Noll led the JCN boys placing tenth with a time of 19:38.21, while Ted Sharp finished 11th, Logan Baker earned 15th place and Michael Bertels finished 20th. 

Horton Chargers had a pair of Top 10 finishes on the day as Deja Tilden with a time of 24:22.78 earned sixth place in the girls race and Sky Joe Coversup raced to a time of 19:22.93 to earn seventh place in the boys competition. Jordan Galietti picked up 19th place finish in the girls race also for Horton. 

Onaga Buffalo, Halie Jeannerret earned a ninth place finish behind a time of 24:26.49 to lead Onaga's performances on the day, while Belinda Ames placed 16th and Cheyenne Turner finished 18th. 

Eleventh and 12th place finishes led Nemaha Central on the day at the Jackson Heights Invite as Jessica Deters took 11th in the girls race and Jordan Peterson finished 12th in the boys competition. 

Holton Wildcats had three Top 20 finishers on the day as Skyler Weir and Eli Prine placed 18th and 19th in the boys competition and Mary Pritchett finished 20th in the girls race. 

Riverside Cyclones were led by Matthew Kline who posted a 12th place finish the boys race.
