Nemaha Central Volleyball Win Sub-State to Head to 3A State

Just a year removed from the last trip to the State tournament Nemaha Central volleyball is headed back to the Class 3A State tournament after capturing the Sub-State volleyball title on Saturday at Sabetha. 

The Thunder after a strong regular season that included winning the Big Seven League title for the second straight year earned the number one seed in Sub-State hosted by Sabetha and drew Riverside in the opening round contest. Nemaha Central downed the Cyclones in straight sets in the first round winning 25-7, 25-14 moving in the Semifinals where Marysville stood in the way and the Thunder snagged another straight set win beating the Bulldogs 25-18, 25-15 to advance to the Championship. Standing in front of Nemaha Central in the Championship was Hiawatha and the Thunder topped the Red Hawks again winning in straight sets 25-15, 25-22 to lay claim to the Sub-State championship. 

Nemaha Central heads to the Class 3A State tournament with a 32-8 record on the season as they are back at State in Emporia where they were in 2014 when they went 0-3 at State. The State tournament is set to begin on Friday, October 28th in Emporia for Class 3A and the Thunder will start their State tournament action in the afternoon session with pool play starting at 3:30pm vs. Wellsville, 6:30pm vs. Cheney and 7:30pm vs. Douglass. (All the matches will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA)
