Highland Football Beats Iowa Western for First Time in School History

After a pair of tough losses on the road in the last two games the Highland Scotties football team were back and home and the home cooking helped out as the Scotties earned the 24-15 win over Iowa Western. The win over the Reivers was also the first in Highland history over Iowa Western.

Scotties fell down 6-0 early to Iowa Western but with 4:52 left in the first quarter tied the contest at 6-6 and the game stayed that way entering the second quarter. Iowa Western took advantage of stopping Highland on downs and a fumble recovery to regain the lead and go up 15-6. The Scotties recovered an Iowa Western fumble just before the half on the Scottie seven-yard line and kept the score at 15-6 headed into halftime.

In the second half the Scotties took advantage of some Iowa Western turnovers as a muffed punt was recovered by Highland helping set up a Ra'Qaunne Dickens touchdown to make it 15-12, Scotties trailing by three. Dominique Williams snagged an interception for Highland and with 3:03 left in the third quarter Marquiz Terry had a six-yard touchdown run to give the Scotties an 18-15 lead. Iowa Western put together a drive that looked like would tie the game was they went for a 37-yard field goal but missed and the Scotties took over the possession still leading 18-15 with just over seven minutes left in the contest. Scotties added a 29-yard touchdown run by Terry to cap the scoring and the game earning the 24-15 win at home over Iowa Western.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Highland moving them to 5-3 on the season. The Scotties are back on the road next week at Fort Scott CC in KJCCC conference action with a 7:00pm kick.
