Northeast Kansas League Football Honors Awarded

It was a highly competitive year in the Northeast Kansas League in football with co-League Champs and a trio of teams making the playoffs. With the season in the books the All-Northeast Kansas League honors have been handed out. 

The Jefferson County North Chargers and Jackson Heights Cobras share the NEKL crown this year as they both finished unbeaten in the League but didn't play each other. The Chargers posted a 6-0 NEKL record and 8-2 overall mark making the 2-1A playoffs. Three Chargers earned first team All-League offense with two more earning second team, while on defense three more Chargers got the nod for first team and one more on second team. Two JCN guys earned second team special teams honors while one more player picked up honorable mention League honors. 

Jackson Heights Cobras posted a 5-0 mark in the NEKL and finished 6-3 overall on the season. A trio of Cobras earned first team offense All-League honors, while a quartet of Cobras were named first team defense and also one first team special teams honoree. Second team honors went to a pair of Cobras on offense, along with one more guy earning honorable mention. 

Oskaloosa Bears posted a 4-2 mark in NEKL play to tie for third in the League but finished just 4-5 overall. Two Bears earned first team All-League offense and one first team defense, while second team honors went to one Bear on defense and another on special teams. One more Oskaloosa player earned honorable mention honors, also. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy also finished 4-2 in NEKL play finishing tied for third in the League and finished with a 7-3 record and made the 3A playoffs. Maur Hill and a pair of players snag first team All-League offense honors and another first team defense honors, while one player was named first team kicker and punter. Three more Ravens earned second team offense and four guys grabbed second team defense All-League honors with one more guy getting honorable mention. 

McLouth Bulldogs tallied a 3-3 mark in the NEKL and 4-5 mark on the season. Three Bulldogs picked up first team All-League honors one on offense and a duo on defense, while two more McLouth player picked second team honors on offense and defense (one on each side of the ball). One other Bulldog grabbed honorable mention All-League honors for McLouth.

Pleasant Ridge Rams last year's NEKL champs went just 2-5 in the League in 2016 and finished 3-7 overall. Rams had one player get named to the first team All-League defense, while three guys earned second team offense and a trio of Rams were also picked for second team defensive honors and one other for honorable mention. 

Horton Chargers picked up just one League win going 1-6 and 1-8 overall on the year. Chargers had one guy named second team All-League on both offense and defense and third player picked up honorable mention honors. 

Immaculata/Maranatha posted a 2-7 mark in the NEKL getting back in the League this year and went 0-7 in League play. Two players earned All-League with one named second team defense and the other honorable mention honors. 

Valley Falls moved to 8-Man football this but still a member of the NEKL; the Dragons finished the season 1-9. One Dragon player earned honorable mention All-League honors.
