Four Area Football Players Earn Postseason Honors in MIAA, KCAC & KJCCC

Northeast Kansas has produced several great athletes and many have went on to college to continue their athletic careers. Four athletes from the area put together strong football season and earned postseason All-Conference honors in their respective conferences. 

Former B&B Falcon, Cody Heiman in his senior season at Washburn earned All-MIAA first team defense honors at linebacker. While in the KCAC former Onaga Buffalo, Mitchell Kufahl and former Sabeta Bluejay, Levi Huneke each earned All-Conference honors. Kufahl picked up first team honors at tight end with Kansas Wesleyan, while Huneke snagged second team honors at linebacker with Ottawa. In the KJCCC former Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven, Harry Trotter picked up honorable mention offense honors as he now competes at Fort Scott Community College. 

A preseason Division II All-American the former B&B Falcon and Washburn senior, Heiman has lived up to those preseason accolades leading the Ichabods in tackles with 96, while ranking seventh in the MIAA in tackles. Heiman also has recorded 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and blocked a kick. The senior in his career at Washburn has amassed 246 tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks, 6.5 sacks and five interceptions, including one pick six, while also rushing for 418 yards on 93 carries with six touchdowns. Washburn is 7-4 on the season and Heiman and the Ichabods have one more game this year as they were selected to the Mineral Water Bowl to play Bemidji State University on Saturday, December 3rd at noon in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. 

Kufahl wrapped up his college football career with Kansas Wesleyan picked up All-KCAC first team honors at tight end after catching 27 passes for 484 yards with six touchdowns this year, ranking eighth in the KCAC in receiving yards. The Coyotes finished 9-2 and ranked 17th in the NAIA poll this year. The former Onaga Buffalo in his Coyote career caught 94 passes for 1,668 yards with 15 touchdowns. 

Former Sabetha Bluejay, Levi Huneke also wrapped up his college football career playing with the Ottawa Braves this year finishing 4-7 on the season. Huneke recorded 67 tackles this year (second on the team), with a sack, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries and ranked in the Top 20 in tackles in the KCAC and picked up All-KCAC second team honors at linebacker. In his two years at Ottawa Levi totaled 117 tackles with two sacks and three interceptions and before that at Highland Community College he tallied 54 tackles and four sacks. 

Trotter started his collegiate football career this year as the former Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven saw plenty of action as a freshman at Fort Scott Community College as a runningback and posted 503 yards on 146 carries with eight touchdowns, while adding 14 catches for 86 yards. Harry ranked fifth in the KJCCC in rushing touchdowns and 11th in total rushing yards on the season. The former Raven earned honorable mention All-KJCCC honors on offense at runningback. Fort Scott posted a 4-7 record on the year.
