Jeff West Baseball Extends Win Streak With Sweep of Sabetha

Jeff West Tigers baseball is on a roll and that continued with two more wins on Thursday as they traveled to Sabetha for Big Seven League action and the Tigers stretched their win streak to 11-straight with the doubleheader sweep winning 12-2 and 14-12. 

Game one saw Jeff West jump up early plating three runs in the Top of the first inning using three hits, a hit batter and Sabetha error as Donny Dale delivered an RBI single for the Tigers to help them lead 3-0 going into the bottom of the first. Sabetha got one themselves in the bottom of the first as Brandon Brownlee got on base with double and an RBI single by Blake Frey brought him home to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the third a one-out double by Joe Gruber got Sabetha a base runner in scoring position and Brownlee notched an RBI single two batters later to make it 3-2 entering the fourth inning. The Tigers in the fourth took advantage of three Sabetha errors and batted around scoring five as the inning was highlighted by a two RBI double by Nathan Buss. Jeff West pushed the lead out further in the Top of the fifth plating four runs and Buss delivered a three RBI double in the frame. Sabetha managed a pair of base runners in the bottom of the fifth but Jeff West finished the contest for the 12-2 five inning win. 

Jeff West in the win was led by Grant Thompson who tossed all five innings giving up two runs on six hits with four strikeouts earning the win. While offensively a 3-4 game with two RBI's by Branden Callahan led the Tigers and Josh Lanum, Buss and Josh Gibson each recorded two hits. Sabetha in the loss had a 2-3 game from Brownlee and Frey. 

Game two saw Jeff West pounce on the lead early also getting a pair of runs in the Top of the first taking advantage of some Sabetha miscues. The Tigers opened up the game in the second batting round and plating eight runs on six hits including three extra base hits as both Callahan and Lucas Becker each had a two RBI double and Caleb Middendorf had an RBI triple in the inning making to 10-0. Sabetha broke through with runners in the third and got three runs in the inning, while Jeff West added a run in the Top of the fifth and Sabetha got three more in the fifth batting around in the inning making it 11-6 after five innings. Using four walks and an RBI single by Buss Jeff West pushed the lead to 14-6 entering the bottom of the seventh. Sabetha didn't go away quietly as hey capitalized on an error and then got six walks and two hits scoring six runs to get back into the game but ultimately the rally fell short as the Tigers completed the sweep with a game two 14-12 win. 

Jeff West had 11 hits as a team and Middendorf, Buss, Lanum and Becker all had a two-hit game, while Becker, Buss and Callahan each added two RBI's. Sabetha in the loss had only five hits but drew 11 walks in the contest. 

The two wins push Jeff West to 11-1 on the season extending their win streak to 11, while Sabetha fell to 8-6 on the season. Both teams are back in action on Monday, May 1st as Jeff West will host Perry Lecompton and Sabetha will host Silver Lake.
