Tuesday night marked a big contest for Highland as they hosted Coffeyville in Jayhawk Conference volleyball action in a battle of top conference teams and Top 20 teams in the NJCAA DII polls. While the Scotties gave Coffeyville a run it was the Red Ravens coming out on top in three sets 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20.

Set one saw Coffeyville establish a 5-1 lead but Highland came back with consecutive points to draw within two only to see Coffeyville have an answer and go on an 8-0 run to take a 13-3 lead. Scotties didn't go away fighting back with a 5-0 run of their own to draw within five and got as close as 20-18 late in the first set but the Red Ravens used their early run to hold on to the lead and take set one 25-19. Zealia Kleitz had three kills to lead the Scotties in the first set, while Katie Pearson, Kirsten Johnson and Leslie Polanco each had three digs.

Set two was tight and that way most of the action as Highland down early battled to tie it up at 10-10 but Coffeyville once again had an answer swing the lead back their way and led 21-17 when the Scotties took a timeout. Highland out of the timeout outscored Coffeyville 5-1 over next six points and tied the set up at 22-22 but again Coffeyville found a way to hold the Scotties off snatching set two 25-23. Polanco had nine kills in set two, while Pearson recorded 11 assists and five digs.

Highland stayed within striking distance throughout set three but early establishment of the lead by Coffeyville proved to be the difference in the third set as the Red Ravens finished the contest by taking set three 25-20.

Leading the way in the loss was Polanco with 13 kills her 14-match with double figure kills this season while also recording six digs. Pearson had 25 assists and 10 digs in the contest, while Kleitz finished with eight kills and three blocks. Carrie Fisher chipped in three kills and four digs, while Johnson finished with eight digs.

The loss sends Highland to 15-4 overall and 3-1 in KJCCC action snapping a seven-match win streak. Scotties get back to action again on Wednesday, September 26th at home when they host Labette for KJCCC play.
