Nemaha Central Girls Hold On While Thunder Boys Roll Topping Holton

It was a tale of two different games in a Big Seven League showdown in Seneca on Friday night as Nemaha Central swept Holton as the Thunder girls held of Holton for the 46-44 win, while Thunder boys rolled to the 78-36 win. 

GIRLS 

It was tight early and remain that way throughout the contest as Nemaha Central Thunder girls took the initial lead and held on to it the whole contest keeping Holton at bay. It was a one point game for a while in the first quarter until Nemaha Central pushed the lead to 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. The lead grew in the early portion of the second quarter as the hit a couple of three's and went up 20-10 but Holton finished the first half strong outscoring Nemaha Central 10-4 after the 10-point lead was established and it was 24-20 at halftime. Thunder held off Holton's advances in the third quarter and throughout the fourth but Holton stayed within striking distance and after a steal Lauryn Moore converted a bucket to make it 46-44 with 17.3 seconds remaining. Holton proceeded to foul Nemaha Central and just in the one and one the Thunder missed the free throw and the Wildcats grabbed the rebound with an opportunity with or tie in the final seconds. In the final seconds of the contest Saydee Tanking fired up an 18-foot jump shot that came up short and Nemaha Central grabbed the rebound to earn the 46-44 win. 

Nemaha Central was led by Laura Macke who tallied 14 points and helped set the tone early with six first quarter points earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Both Jacy Dalinghaus and Allison Rottinghaus each chipped in nine points as the Thunder improved to 3-0 on the year and 3-0 in Big Seven play. 

For the Holton Wildcats, Moore led the way with 15 points, while Saydee Tanking scored 14 points. Shay Tanking was held to one-point until late in the fourth quarter and finished with seven points. Holton with the loss moved to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in Big Seven action. 

Up next Nemaha Central will host Sabetha on Tuesday night (game will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA) and Holton travels to Riverside.

BOYS 

The clap of the Thunder was loud to open the boy’s matchup on the night as Nemaha Central had a booming start to the game against Holton putting the Wildcats on their heels early and cruising to the win. 

Back-to-back three pointers to open the game by Camron Feldkamp set the tone for Nemaha Central who was running wild up and down the court and worked to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of the contest. After a Holton timeout the Thunder stretched the run to a 16-0 to open the the game over the first three and half minutes. Six different Nemaha Central players scored in the first quarter helping them lead 24-5 after one frame. The lead expanded with a 23-14 second quarter and by halftime Nemaha Central led 47-19 going on to grab the win 78-36. 

A quartet of double figure scorers and eight scorers overall led Nemaha Central on the night who was 19-29 from the free throw line. Cole Kramer for the third game led the team in scoring posting 16 points and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Feldkamp netted 13 points, while Austin Gerety gave the team great energy off the bench and posted 11 points. Mitchell Henry chipped in 10 points and the Thunder improved to 3-0 on the year and 3-0 in Big Seven League action. 

In the loss Holton was led by Mason Strader who scored 13 points, while top scorer Zane Moylan battle foul trouble throughout the contest. The loss sends Holton to 1-2 on the season and 1-2 in Big Seven play. 

Up next Nemaha Central will host Sabetha on Tuesday night (game will be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA) and Holton travels to Riverside.
