Perry Lecompton Boys Win & Girls Take Second to Lead Area Performances at Perry Relays

The start gun fired off and off and running were athletes on the track while several more were competing in the field events at the Perry Lecompton Relays on Tuesday with a trio of area teams in action. 

The host Perry Lecompton highlighted the day for the area teams as the Kaw boys earned first place with 207 total points winning by 100 points. Atchison and Jeff West boys placed third and fourth out of eight teams in action. On the girls side of competition Perry Lecompton earned second finishing only 13 points behind Wellsville. While Jeff West and Atchison girls place third and fourth out of seven teams. 

Perry Lecompton had a multitude of Top three finishes on the day with 11 first place finishes leading the way. Nine of the 11 first place finishes came in the boys competition including the Kaws sweeping the boys relays winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 with times of 44.78, 3:38.66 and 8:57.31. Also on the track Dalton Kellum sprinted to the gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 10.97 and 24.54, while Ty Packard won the 800 meter run (2:10.06). In the field events Packard won the javelin (136'00), while Ike Dwyer won the high jump (5'06), Chris Boyden took first in the discus (119'10) and Colton Mallonee won the triple jump (42'01). Dwyer added a second place in the pole vault to his day. The lady Kaws were led by Talisa Stone who won the high jump (5'02) and Mykiah McDaniel who won the discus (110'01). 

The Kaws added 14 more Top three finishes on the day at their home meet. For the boys Caden Dean took second in the long jump and 200 meter dash, while Jessye Schumann earned the silver in the 800 meter run and Spencer Funk placed second in the javelin. Bronze medals were snagged by Shane Quinlan in the 100 meter dash, Joshua LeClair in the 40 meter dash, Scott Urban in the javelin and Dawson Williams in the triple jump. For the lady Kaws Cali Coleman took second in the 200 meter dash and long jump, while Rylee Paramore finished second in the 300 meter hurdles. Samantha Worthington earned third in the girls shot put and Haley Kellum placed third in the 400 meter dash and triple jump. 

Jeff West Tigers were led by seven first place finishes on the day including Mariah Murdie winning three events, sweeping the hurdles 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.78 and 52.56, while leaping to the win in the triple jump (37'02). Jordan Hawman sprinted past the competition to win the 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 26.91 and 1:02.84. A vault of 10'00.50 earned Makenzie Tucker first place in the pole vault, while also taking second in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. The lady Tigers 4x100 meter relay team also took first place after posting a time of 54.10. Heather Kahler added a third place finish in the girls 800 meter run for Jeff West. The Jeff West boys were led by Bryce Clements who placed second in the 400 meter dash and third in the long jump, while Kauli Saili took second in both the shot put and discus. Jacob Hamm earned third in the 1600 meter run and Peneueta Saili placed third in the shot put.

Talia Rawls lead Atchison on the day as she posted a time of 12.57 to win the girls 100 meter dash. Also on the track for Atchison Adalynn Collins and Teagan Hanson finished second and third in the 3200 meter run, respectively while Arhianna Franklin and Elizabeth Harper placed second and third in the 100 meter hurdles, respectively. Amari Rawls earned a third place finish in the girls 300m hurdles also for Atchison. The Atchison boys had Matthew Sowers place second in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, while Alex Martin took the silver in the triple jump and Austin Detimore placed second in the 100 meter dash. Third place finishes were earned by Steven Jolly in the 800 meter run, Christian Arnold in the 300 meter hurdles and Dakota Harris in the high jump.
