Preseason Top 10 Cross Country Teams Ranked by KS Milesplit

The fall sports season is less than a month away from kicking off and with that the preseason rankings for cross country have been released by Kansas Milesplit for each classification.

Two Big 7 league teams highlight the Class 3A rankings on the girls side, as Sabetha checks in at No. 1 and Hiawatha closely behind at No. 2. Sabetha is expected to be led by Hattie Lukert who is currently ranked sixth in the state with a personal best time of 20:30.70, while Hiawatha houses the No. 2-ranked runner in the state in Elizabeth Kettler who has a personal best time of 19:24.00.

On the boys side in Class 3A once again it was Sabetha and Hiawatha occupying the top two spots as the Redhawks open the season ranked No. 1 while the Bluejays are second. Justin Hodge enters the season as the fifth-ranked runner in the state for Hiawatha with a time of 16:26.20, while Henry Glynn is ninth with a time of 17:11.50 for Sabetha.

In Class 2A just one area team is ranked heading into the start of the 2018 season and it comes on the girls side, as Jackson Heights checks in at No. 9 led by Faith Little who has the ninth best time in the class at 21:29.38.

Class 1A features three area teams in the top 10 with Frankfort represented by both the girls and boys teams, while the Valley Falls boys enter the season ranked as well.

The Wildcat boys hold the highest ranking heading into the season at No. 4, with Colton Parthemer eighth in the state with a time of 18:01.09. The Wildcat girls are eighth in 1A with four runners inside the top 45, led by Victoria Keller who has the tenth best time heading into 2018 at 23:48.54.

The Valley Falls boys finish up the list of ranked area teams in 1A at No. 9, as the Dragons are led by Noah Hefty who has the No. 30 time in the state heading into the year at 19:20.18.
