KVA Week Four - Rankings

The third full week of the high school volleyball season wrapped up Saturday, and with that the third set of regular season rankings have been released by the Kansas Volleyball Association with five area teams named.

Once again Royal Valley holds the top overall spot in Class 3A, as the Panther remain at No. 1 for the third consecutive week with a perfect 20-0 record. The Panthers picked up a pair of two set wins over Nemaha Central last week, and then followed that up with two more wins over Hiawatha and Perry Lecompton Tuesday night.

As to the Thunder they had the biggest drop in the rankings from No. 2 to No. 8, sitting at 20-8 on the season with four of eight losses to Royal Valley. The Thunder are coming off a fourth place finish in the Wamego Invite on Saturday falling to Santa Fe Trail and Hays, while picking two wins over Riverside and Sabetha Tuesday night.

A new team has cracked the 3A rankings, as the Holton Lady Cats enter the rankings at No. 10 after not being ranked last week. Holton is currently 21-7 on the season after winning the Wamego Invite Saturday, before splitting a doubleheader with Jeff West Tuesday.

In Class 1A it’s still the Centralia Panthers holding the top spot and for good reason. The Panthers are a perfect 23-0 on the season, and have dropped just one set all year. Centralia also has two tournament championships to their credit, and Tuesday night picked up two more wins taking down Frankfort and Clifton-Clyde in two sets.

Just like 3A a new team has cracked the 1A rankings, as Valley Falls checks in this week at No. 9. The Dragons haven’t been ranked yet this season, currently holding an 18-4 record after a 1-1 night Tuesday taking down Maur Hill-Mount Academy and falling to Jefferson County North.
